As a couple who have recently moved to Gurgaon, I am always on the look out for weekend getaways. In my short six months here, I have visited Chail, Hrishikesh and Kasauli, all 6-7 hrs away. For this particular weekend I was looking for a place, where the whole trip cost would be within 8k for two people and driving distance of 3/4 hrs.

Neemrana fort and Getaway resort near Damdama lake were ruled out given the expensive rooms. I was now left with options closer to the Ganga. Baghaan Orchard retreat in Garhmukteshwar and Rao raj Villas in Kuchesar caught my fancy, but both were sold out!

I finally cracked a decent deal with Mudfort Kuchesar, a mere 2.5 hrs or 117kms away from Gurgaon. The place is a small Haveli with gardens, a huge wide banayan tree and swing at the entrance. Facilities at the place boast of badminton court, functional pool, table tennis, carrom, pottery classes and bullock cart rides around the farms. All in all enough to keep you busy without TVs in your rooms for a weekend.

The haveli staff is polite, quick to serve and friendly. Rooms are badic and require a fair bit of dusting. The food is tasty although a better spread for the buffets could make it more appealing! All in all I would recommend this place for couples or families wanting to make a quick and inexpensive getaway without the expectations of grandeur!
