Chikmagalur is not only known for it coffee and pepper but also is home to Karnataka's highest peak, Mullayanagiri Peak which is a part of the Chandra-Dhrona hill range of the Sahyadri ghats and is 1930m above sea level making it the second largest peak in south India. A 30-minute drive and a quick 20-minute trek is the best place to watch the sunrise. Although there are man-made steps to climb up it is recommended to take the trek trail Sarpahadi to experience the surroundings like a true traveller spirit. There is a shiva temple on top and the view from the summit is spectacular. If you love to trek and not too fussy about the rains monsoon is the best season to visit Mullayanagiri.
