Music Tour of Ghana, Gambia, Senegal

Tripoto
Arrive in Accra. Check into your hotel. Osu is easily the most happening area in Accra and I strongly recommend staying in a hotel here, even though the prices they command are a bit higher than the rest of Accra.
If you’re up for a bit of sightseeing, head to the Osu Castle set along the coast. It was the former seat of government built by the Danes in 1659. You can also check out the nearby Independence Square. Both of these will give you some insight into the history of the region.
Accra’s hottest superclub - a hip-hop and hands-in-the-air club that draws celebs and a mixed, fun crowd.
Head to Makola Market, Accra’s most frenetic market and an ever-expanding mass of stalls. It isn’t the easiest place to shop, but it is an intense and fun experience. And a great initiation into this part of Africa. You’ll find everything from moisturiser to jump leads, Chinese-made toys, antique radios and sacks of cocoa. But the most interesting are the food vendors with their fascinating displays of smoked fish, breads, vegetables and sweets, toffees and chewing gums.
Head to Kokrobite Beach, 32 km outside the city and a great place to get a glimpse of Ghana’s stunning coastline. Grab lunch at Big Milly’s Backyard (also known as Wendy’s Place - video embedded below), before heading to The Academy of African Music and Arts (AAMAL) - a 20-minute walk from Big Milly’s along the beach.
If you feel like some sightseeing and an education on the local culture/history, head to the National Museum. Then stroll along the coast and head to La Tawala Spot by lunch time. It’s a great little spot for having big, tasty plates of jollof rice, with the sound of the ocean and banter of locals in the background. Spend a relaxing afternoon strolling through Adabraka, or relaxing inside a cafe. In the afternoon, go over to Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park (highly rated).
Most action lies in the 10 km stretch of coast from Bakau to Kololi. This is also the stretch that has the liveliest restaurant and nightlife scene, so I would recommend sticking to this area. Since you’ll spend most of your time here hopping from packed beaches to bars, I’ve left the time less structured. I’ve simply made a list of recommendations that you can check out over the 2 days.
