I was planning on doing this for a long time. I am a runner. Every morning I get up and run 5kms, then workout until I am struggling for every breath I take.
Last month I bought a new bicycle. My brain was going haywire, thinking, planning places I'll travel, just on my bicycle. First place in my mind was Chunar.
I started preparing, bought a new sipper, went to the market day before and bought a dozen eggs, bananas, snacks to eat on my way.
Next day I got up, when the world was still asleep. The time when it is so quiet around that you can hear your own breath. Packed and started. Cut to 2 hrs later, I reached the bridge, crossing which you enter Chunar. The bridge is across river Ganges and you can see the chunar fort from bridge itself. The view was mesmerising. I couldn't believe I was only a few KMs away from Varanasi. Ihad to ask around a bit. Living in Varanasi, I am used to cunning people. Initially I was very alert, being alone in a new place for me. I was surprised, people there were so nice and helpful. Ofcourse they exclaimed when they got to know I had come there by bicycle.
The fort is serene and transient. The environment is peaceful. Sad thing is government has paid very little attention to the maintainance and preservation of the place. An opportunity wasted away.
I was so jolly about my little adventure that I went there again the next day, though this time with a friend and by bike.
