We were excited about the trip, maybe because It was our first experience of traveling to an unknown land and also this being the first time I took a flight.
So it began on 11 May 2018, we had booked a flight that was scheduled to leave early morning at 5:30 AM and I was quite nervous as I had no idea about the things you do at the airport. Thankfully, Mittali was there and she had a little knowledge about taking a flight as this was her 2nd trip on a plane. We checked into the airport without any hassles and finally after waiting for half an hour, we were on our flight and it all started.
I had some crazy thoughts about this flight untill we were up in the air thousands of feet above Delhi, I must say, the view from there was pretty good! Soon, everything started to become small and we were lost in the clouds, my fears just vanished. It took us 3 hours to cover the distance between Delhi-Kochi on a direct flight with Indigo Airlines, which isn’t that bad, I mean its great!
So after we landed at Kochi airport, the first thing to notice was the airport which isn't that big but surely is one of the cleanest airport in India. In a matter of 5 mins we checked out of the airport and started to feel the heat. Yes, its hot out there in summers but its nothing like the heat you feel in Delhi as the air is fresh, coming right from thd Indian Ocean to this beautiful city.
We were hungry and were dying to eat South Indian food in South India and thankfully we found Anna Cafe which is located right outside the airport. After stuffing ourselves with delicious uttapam and dosa (which was a bit expensive compared to other places) we were ready for the adventure of our dreams to begin!
The next thing to do was to cover a distance of 30 km and reach the city of Kochi where an Oyo stay was booked for us. We paid an amount of 700 rs (as far asI remember) for Uber cab which took an hour or so to drop us at the location. On our way, we didn't see any oceans but huge water bodies that were all surrounded by the coconut trees, it was all green!
Yes, both of us were tired but didn't want to miss a view and wanted to capture it all on our lenses. Check out our Instagram handel @billieonaroll and @mittali_aery to see all our memories from kochi.
It was time for us to unpack and get going with our exploration. The first place we chose to visit was Marine drive in kochi, which was hardly 4 km away from the place we stayed. Yes, there is a marine drive in Kochi too, but do you know what makes it different from the one in Mumbai? Well, its the Boats that you'll see parked all across the drive, ready to take you on a tour of 45mins - 3 hrs around the coastal city of Kochi.
There was no point of missing this opportunity, so we choose the shortest route of 45 mins tour with the cheapest option costing only 150 per person. This experience of Kochi on a boat was truly amazing. We saw big beautiful yachts, cottages in an Island resort and the port where big container ships were getting loaded/offloaded. On the other side were the uniquely architectured tall buildings, touching the marine drive. Soon, the ferry tour was over and it was time to explore marine drive on foot. The next, we saw small stalls on pathway selling spiced raw mango slices for 10 rs, not really sure for what reason but it was good.
On our way back, since we were hungry(once again) we chose Indian Coffee house(kochi) to be our spot for lunch. The food quality was awesome here and the prices were very economical. If you are in Kochi, you must visit this lovely restaurant located not far from Marine drive.
After taking some rest, we were out again on the streets of Kochi in the evening. The view this time was completely different. The sky turned pink & blue and weather was just so perfect with cold winds from the ocean. We didn't see the ocean but felt the difference in the air, it was fresh! We walked for a mile or so with the metro line and realised that even Kochi has some serious modern city vibes. I didn't expect to see the big malls and the brands outlets, but they are all here. For a moment, it felt like I am in Delhi, but I'm glad it wasn't.
The city of Kochi brought us some big surprise and some unforgettable memories. First day here went pretty amazing and we knew that there's a lot more surprises ahead.
