Padaung Women ~ Myanmar On RoadToThailand

Tripoto
25th Dec 2019
Day 1

Firstly with this blog ,I  wanna wish my wife sweetest returns of the day ❤️ @geetali_ !!

She has been my co-pilot to these crazy Expeditions #RoadToThailand is one of them and the longest one so far we steered in last 5 years.
As I happen to see some of our pictures we steered in 2019 ..I was amazed once again to see the long neck women of MYANMAR ,Shan state ,Kyan State and I met them in Inle Lake (Inlay Lake) They may be referred with many Long neck tribal woman /Kyan Tribe or #PadaungWomen they happen to be the most famous and recognizable out of Myanmar's 135 ethnic groups.
They are often called as long-neck or giraffe women, who live in Pan Pet Village. Dispute the nickname, the women's necks aren't actually elongated but is illusion.

Long neck tribal woman doing traditional crafts in Inle Lake, Myanmar where we first met them .
Here, girls first start to wear rings when they are around 5 years old. Over the years the coil is replaced by a longer one and more turns are added. The weight of the brass pushes the collar bone down and compresses the rib cage. The neck itself is not lengthened; the appearance of a stretched neck is created by the deformation of the clavicle. It’s a living tradition and very much alive what we heard.

Actually this Kayan woman is not propably living in Inle lake but just working and unfortunately just for the show at times to earn living .There are couple of long necks hanging around in Inle and many tourists visit them daily.
We met Daw My Htan , 67 years old effervescent women who kept smiling all that while we were here and I can still feel the pain of those brass rings coiled around her necks to come out with heavy heart . Few keep the tradition alive , few to earn bread out of that and thus be a #ResponsibleTraveller #ResponsibleVanlife #ResponsibleVanlifer and respect where you steer ..each mile has a story to inspire you 🚐!!

Imp Note : Be polite and ask if it’s OK to take a photograph and if they permit please go ahead and offer them some tip kyats (Myanmar currency )
