So, The day on 20th July 2018, me and my friends were sitting and planning to go to some trek just as normal trek. So, after so much planning and plotting we came to a conclusion “ Let’s go to Rajmachi fort trek” which was in Karjat, Dist. Pune. We, were unaware of the beauty, the lush green forest (Sahyadri mountains) and toughness level of this trek.

On 21st July at 5 am, we took our train from Kurla to Karjat (CSTM-KHOPOLI LOCAL). It was raining too heavy and we were enjoying the journey. We reached Karjat station at 6:30 am. The rain was not in the mood to stop today, but of-course Mumbai treks are enjoyable only during monsoon season (JUNE MID TO OCT MID). So, without any second thought we headed towards the base village “KONDIVADE Village”. It was 10-12 kms from karjat station so we have to take an auto, Auto cost 300-400 Rs for full booking, so we hired it and went to KONDIVADE- The base camp of village.

We started our trek from this village at around 7:30 am, and we were so excited because the view was so beautiful. Soon we met two person who were heading down for Rajmachi fort, so we asked them:-

How much time it will take to climb this fort?

They answered: Roughly around 3 hours.

We were ok with time and we planned that surely we will reach by 11am or so. As we headed towards, just after 30 mins we encountered a massive waterfall, as a single person it was impossible to cross that. So, formed a chain and crossed it. Seriously, It was my first experience of crossing such a fast running water fall. There were no sign boards in the way, so it was very difficult to find the ways (If you are going for the very first time for the trek it is expected to go in a group of 5-6 or hire a guide). So, were guessing and moving upward. The way so steep that soon after 1 hour of trek we all started feeling tired.

(It was raining continuously and it was really lush green forest and mosquitos were all around, so wear full sleeve cloths)

The climb starts from this beautiful land. Seems so peaceful, but the starting of the real #adventure

High speed running water streams: Don't be so adventurous and try to cross it alone.

Form a chain and cross it. It exerts a lot of pressure, makes it very difficult to even stand.

We, were unaware of the beauty, the lush green forest (Sahyadri mountains) and toughness level of this trek.

We relaxed for 10-15 mins and again stated climbing. Soon we met with another big waterfall, again we formed a chain and crossed it. Similarly, we crossed 2 more water falls on the way to Fort. We are continuously climbing and as the distance was decreasing steepness was increasing. We were so much tired by 10 that one of our friend gave up and told to stop the journey. At that time also we met some passer-by and they told it still 1 hour 30 mins – 2 hours left reach at the top. At that time I too thought to end it because it was too much to climb and the friend who gave up was actually a “Cancer survivor”, So we were worried about her. We didn’t expected this much toughness level form this trek. We all sat together and had tea which we brought in our Thermo-steal bottles. We discussed and came to a conclusion that if we stop here than our handwork will be wasted. Let’s give a last final try and climb.

Happy yet worried: How to climb??

We again started with a good speed and soon reached a last village- UDHEWADI village. This was a small village and they provide rooms to those who want stay overnight there. We had snacks from there and now it was only half hour route to fort from there. Now the way to fort was at the last stage, the way now was OK to walk and finally we reached the fort entrance at 12:30. Now we climbed the stairs and reached to a point from where fort was only 200 mts, but it was the most dangerous way. If one lost concentration or grip he will fall into the valley. It was raining heavily , the speed of wind was very high and fog was all over there. So, we slowly started to walk on that way and at one point one of our friend got lost. There was no phone signal and it was so foggy that we can’t see him. It was the most fearful moment for me in my life, we were shouting “Arjun…Arjun” and there was no response. Two of my male friends went to top to find him but he was no-where. We all were numb at that moment that what should we do now????

Then, we suddenly out of nowhere the phone bell rings (mobile signal came) and he went on some other way and we went to other. That is the most important thing one has too keep in mind that never go alone, it is very difficult to find if someone get lost.

(RAJMACHI consist of two forts: 1)Shriwardhan Ballekilla and 2) Manaranjan Balekilla)

**If you have to visit both, you have make an arrangement to stay up there.

Then we all tighter went on the top and the weather was so pleasant and it was raining continuously and the view was very beautiful. We stayed there for 30-45 mins and then started our journey back to kondivade village. We were so happy that OK now we can go down easily, but that was our misconception. The downward journey was more difficult. We stared around 2-2:30 pm and thought to reach the village by 5pm. But it was 7pm when we reached the village, this time we encountered 6 high speed running water streams in which one of friend was just about to flow (never break the chain when the water flow is high). During return we even lost our way in between, we were no where but in-between a hill. After so many assumptions we took one difficult way to go down slowly and that’s why we got late because form the we went up was not the same when came down. While coming back KONDANA Caves came in-between but we were so tired to go there, therefore we decided to skip it.

*If one has time for two days it is better to stay up there for one night because what we did was very adventurous. Going for such a long trek and coming back on the same day. One more thing is that the way to Rajmachi fort is very adventurous from KARJAT but there is one more way from LONAVALA which is plain and you can walk 15 km straight to go Rajmachi. The #choice is yours.

BE A RAJMACHI TREKER! IT FEELS GREAT.

If one gets lost in such situation, it's very difficult to find. sometimes phone network comes sometimes it doesn't.

The stairs ends here, now you have to climb through narrow ways and it's so slippery and you have nothing to hold, one has be to be very careful here
