The 'Ladakh Highlights' experience provides you with a sample of the beauty and a sneak peek into the ancient world of Ladakh. Wander through the most popular Buddhist monasteries, take a day trip to the notorious 'moonland' territory at Lamayuru and experience first hand the magic of Khardong La pass(the worlds highest motorable road) and 'Pangong Tso' (a breathtaking lake made famous by the 'Three Idiots' movie).
Day 1: Delhi – Leh
An early morning arrival at Leh airport, you will be greeted by your guide and transferred directly to your hotel. After check-in spend the day taking rest and adapting to the high altitude of Ladakh. In the late afternoon, visit the beautiful Shanti stupa and capture some magnificent photos at sunset. Overnight stay in the Leh hotel.
Day 2: Shey - Stok - Thiksey - Hemis
The morning starts with a picturesque drive to Shey Village and a visit to Shey Monastery and Palace (both built in 1655 as summer retreat spaces for the reigning King). We also visit the Stok Palace museum to learn about the royal kingdoms of Ladakh and have a chance to view many royal artefacts and paraphernalia. After lunch we will take in the monastic sights as we visit Thiksey monastery (commonly referred to as Little Lhasa because of it's architectural resemblance to Little Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet). In the afternoon, we take a safari drive to Hemis gompa which is the richest monastery in all of India and the largest monastic institution in Ladakh with over 200 branches and 1000 monks. Overnight stay in Leh Hotel.
Day 3: Lamayuru - Ulley Tokpo
The day begins with a scenic drive to Lamayuru monastery - one of the largest and oldest monasteries in Ladakh and home to over 150 monks. After lunch, take some time to enjoy the sights of Lamayuru's 'moonland' - aptly named because of it's extra-terrestrial-like craters which resemble the landscape of the moon. Overnight stay Ulley Tokpo in luxury resort.
Day 4: Alchi - Likir Monastery - Leh
An early morning visit to Alchi Monastery to view the ancient thankas and Kashmiri influenced wall paintings. Next we go to Likir Monastery founded by King Lha-chen-rgyal-po in the 11th century. Likir Monastary is famous for its sizeable Buddha statue and the fact it belongs to the Ge-lug-pa order of Tibetan Buddhism. Return to Leh via Sangam (the meeting point of Indus and Zangskar rivers) and the mysterious Magnetic Hill. Overnight stay in Leh hotel.
Day 5: Pangong Lake
Another scenic drive to the magnificent Pangong Lake - a must see destination for your time in Ladakh made famous by the 'Three Idiots' movie. More than half of Pangong Lake seperates Ladakh from China and the appearance of the water changes at every angle of the sun which makes for some amazing photographs. Return to Leh in the afternoon and if time permits we will visit Shanti Stupa at dusk. Overnight stay in Leh hotel.
Day 6: Leh City Tour - Shopping
For your final day in Leh, we check in at the Leh Palace, Tsemo Castle and take a bit of time to shop in the main bazaar.
Day 7: Delhi
An early morning flight back to Delhi and transfer to your hotel or the international airport.
