In order to enhance the appearance of railway stations, Indian Railways has been working on beautification and renovation of stations. Attractive wall paintings and murals have been done in order to beautify the stations. Not only the platforms and walls but even some trains are painted in vibrant hues an example of which is Madhubani art being painted on some trains in Bihar. Over 225 artists painted 22 coaches of the Patna Rajdhani express got decorated with the traditional Madhubani paintings inside and outside.

The beautification process has already been started and so far stations like Indore Junction, Dibrugarh, Chandrapur, Ballarshah, Kota, Gandhidham, Secunderabad have been revamped.

Ministry of Railways recently shared mesmerising pictures of Assam’s Dibrugarh railway station painted in breathtaking colors. The walls of Indore Junction railway station were also painted in vibrant colors depicting monuments and landmarks.

The walls of Indore Junction railway station remind passengers of history and glory of independent India with murals of queen of Jhansi and national monuments.

Ahead of Kumbh Mela 2019, Jhunsi station in Allahabad district was also beautified with colourful paintings done on the walls. Jhunsi railway station which is the nearest to Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The walls are repainted with beautiful cultural paintings and murals. Ministry of Railways tweeted about the beautification drive, "Indian Railways is working towards beautification of all Railway Stations. Here are few glimpses of beautiful Paintings at Jhunsi, a Kumbh Mela area station of Prayagraj."

In order to encourage public participation, Railways organised in-house station beautification competition in May this year. Local artists from across the country participated in the competition and painted the walls of stations in unique artworks. Chandrapur and Ballarshah railway stations won first prize and artist took home Rs 10 lakh. Madurai (Tamil Nadu) followed in the second place, and Gandhidham (Gujarat), Kota (Rajasthan) and Secunderabad (Telangana) stations in the third place.
