SilleryGaon - little village in North Bengal

Tripoto

Hills fascinate me! Well time and again I keep writing my stories elaborating my love for hills. Yet again I escaped to this place near Kolkata, SileryGaaon.

Sillery is a plant growing in this region in abundance and theirby the name Sillery -Gaon(village). It is picturesque village in New Darjeeling, just 90kms from Siliguri.

Sillery Gaon is another special place from where one can have great views of the Kanchendzonga peak! It stands at an altitude of 6000ft above sea level.

I reached Siliguri early in the morning by a night bus from Esplanade in Kolkata. I shared a cab with other travelers to Sillerygaon which is 92 kms from here.

It was a one night halt at this place and I would be leaving the next evening. That was my plan. I reached the home-stay which was walk away from the main area around 10 am. Quickly I freshened up and set out to trek upto to Tinchuley point to capture a glimpse of the peak.

Cars can be hired to avoid the trek. But I guess it is more worth to trek up than take a car. Damsang ruins can also be visited while your stay in Sillergaon.

But one must also visit Ramitey specially to get the spectacular view of the 14 turns the road takes to cover the distance. It meanders along the Kanchendonga range. The next day I head to this place by car. Luckily I got along with another family travelling till Ramitey.
