Udaipur, the city of lakes doesn’t need any introduction these days. It offers something for everyone, from a backpacking to luxury experience.

I try my best to not miss any chance of visiting new places. I had never been to Udaipur before so when I was offered a chance to visit the city of lakes I grabbed it despite the fact that I had only a day. Without further delays, let’s quickly jump into the details:

We reached Udaipur around 9 pm and booked hotel behind city palace. It was sort of a heritage style hotel (maybe some old haveli turned into a hotel). I don’t remember the name but it was simple and clean. I’d recommend that if you’re staying overnight, stay opposite City Palace or by any lake, I have heard that the view at night is beautiful.

Itinerary:

1. City Palace: The architecture and location of this palace is beautiful. It’s a must visit if you’re visiting for the first time. However I don’t feel same about Crystal gallery. I personally feel that it’s a bit overpriced compared to all the palaces I have visited around the world. Take your time, enjoy the views of the city from the top level of the palace.

If you’re car enthusiast you can also visit Royal Vintage Car museum.

2. Jagmandir Palace: It’s a must visit. You have to take the boat from the jetty next to lake palace (near Parking).

This palace is perfect spot for insta photos with lake Pichola and City palace in the background.

There’s a cafe/bar inside the palace. So have a drink and enjoy the view while sipping it slowly.

3. Monsoon Palace/ Sajjangarh Palace: Now this is the place that made me feel happy and disappointed at same time. Happy because the views of the city are so ah-mazing from this palace. It is located at the top of a hill overlooking Fateh sagar lake. It was built for monsoon residence and an astronomical centre but the project never finished.

I was very disappointed and sad because it is currently in very run down condition.

I’d still recommend to not to miss this palace for the unreal panoramic views it offers.

4. City market: I strolled in market for some time before heading back.

I didn’t have much time but it went as I planned. I did all the research on my way to Udaipur so that I could use my time wisely. This city is definitely worth spending more than a day. Hopefully I would be back soon.
