Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world and in India, located at an altitude of 17,800 ft (5,430 m), in the Indian state of Sikkim.
It is claimed that the lake was blessed in the 15th century by Guru Nanak, the spiritual leader of Sikhism, while he passed through this area.
Our journey started at 5.00 am in the morning from lachung. The cold wind kept us freeze even after wearing 4 layers of woollen clothes. We could not even wash our hands as it was too cold. Our co-travellers took alcohol to keep them warm. We started to move on to gurudongmar lake by 8.00 am we reached a place and had breakfast not exactly a breakfast it was like bread and jam purchased woollen socks as my legs were getting freeze. Me and my friend took about 3 to 4 avomine in a day to avoid vomiting. The road from Thangu to Gurudongmar passes through rugged terrain with moraine, which has high alpine pastures covered with many rhododendron trees. Reached there by 11.30 we could not believe we were at an altitude of about 17800ft high. Got down from our sumo just went to see the lake captured some pics and came back and sat down in the sumo this was the worst feeling. The cold wind was becoming a major hatred factor. Headaches, dry lips, dry skin all were the negative part of this trip
