Ride from Phuentsholing to Thimphu.
Bhutan is known as the himalayan kingdom, situated in the midst of the Himalayas. So naturally, i had expected the ride across this country to be a bit challenging. Lots of serpentine turns, hairpin bends, roads overlooking the valleys and the likes, which is why, I was a bit disappointed to see the flat 4-lane highway on my way from Siliguri to Phuentsholing. But all of that changed on the way from Phuentsholing to Paro. When I rode from Phuentsholing to Paro, the ride was breathtaking, to say the least..
As I discovered Paro is not situated atop the mountain but among the mountains, in the valley. So the ride included everything - an uphill climb through the clouds and dense fog with ocassional showers. This is the part where you feel like you are actually in the cloud, with the water, and that water is drizzling all around you. I know now, how the Gods would feel. And once you start downhill and the fog clears and you are out of the clouds there is the breathtaking view of the Paro valley, with rivers running along the road. Truly mesmerizing.
