Ask anyone about their ideal beach vacation in India and the answer undoubtedly will be Goa. Pretty beaches, good food and amazing sunsets are the perfect way to destress and relax. However, if the holiday season has kept you too busy or if your budget isn’t permitting you to take that much needed break then you must visit this hidden beach village in Mumbai popularly known as Mini-Goa!

Where?

As a Mumbaikar, the idea of clean and calm beaches to spend your holiday might seem a little stretched. With people overcrowding the popular beaches at Juhu and Girgaum at any point of the day, it comes across as a surprise to find this beach just inside the city.

Located in the northern suburbs of Mumbai near the famous Gorai beach, lies this beautiful coastal village on Manori island.Surrounded by churches, temples and beautiful beach huts, it gives out a Portuguese vibe which will remind you of some of the secluded beaches in Goa.

The beach is known for its cleanliness and greenery. Surrounded by hillocks, it has a small one that is great for a short hike and to enjoy the views from its top.

Amongst the many things that this beach is famous for, is the sunset which should not be missed while on your visit here. The palm trees swaying gently to the breeze, with the sun reflecting in its clean waters is a sight to behold.

You can enjoy the views here while sipping on the quick refreshments available like coconut water and the ever so popular Gola.

It is also known for the cottage style bungalows which are lined along the beach front. Recently lit up in LEDs by the local government, they are a perfect stay option.Live barbeques can also be enjoyed during your stay here. It is known for its local delicacies available in the local restaurants near the beach.

If you would like to explore the nearby areas, then the most famous attraction here is the Global Vippasanna Pagoda which holds the relics of Sri Gautam Buddha and holds one of the most beautiful hollow stone idols of Buddha in the world. You can also visit the Samudreshwar Temple of Lord Shiva or the old Portuguese Church which has a similar architecture to the one in Goa.

Best time to visit

Although you can visit this beach all around the year , due to a slight drop in the temperatures , November-March is the best time to visit it.

How to reach

By Train: The nearest railway station is at Malad and Borivali on the western line. From here local transport is available to reach the beach.

By Ferry: One of the most popular options to visit this beach is to take the ferry which charges just Rs. 10 to take you across the island from Marve beach in 15 mins. From there you can take an auto to reach Manori. You can also take your two-wheeler across in the ferry.

By Road: If you are driving down to the beach, then you need to park your cars at the Pay and Park at Marve beach and take the ferry from there followed by an auto.
