Jatinga is a small village in Assam infamous for an unexplained phenomenon that occurs there, that of mass deaths of birds. The village gets migratory birds from far corners of the world. But, tragically, these birds never fly back.
In a mysterious and yet to be understood phenomenon, the birds just drop dead, everywhere. What is spooky is that birds flying over a specific, one-mile stretch, fall to their death, on moonless nights in the months of September and October, between 18:00 and 21:30 hours.

According to the story a sorcerer fell in love with a beautiful princess, who did not reciprocate his feelings. The sorcerer was desperate to win her over and decided to cast a spell on her. The princess came to know of his nefarious plan and had him killed. It is believed that before breathing his last, the sorcerer, cursed the fort and cast a spell on it, causing its downfall.
There are many local stories of the spirit of the sorcerer haunting the fort, at night.
Bengal Swamps in West Bengal
Don’t know if this a natural occurrence, like the famous Northern lights or if there is some evil supernatural powers at play, in the Bengal swamps. Local fishermen have reported seeing unusual lights, called the Aleya Ghost lights, dancing over the marsh waters. The lights cast a sort of spell over the fishermen, causing them to become disorientated. Fishermen have known to have followed these lights, into the marshes, to their death.
Locals believe that the ghost lights are caused by the spirit of a fisherman who had died in the marshes. Kuldhara village in Rajasthan
The Kuldhara village is a ghost village, all that you can find here are the ruins of what was once a flourishing community of the Paliwal Brahmins. They had resided in the village for over 7 centuries, before suddenly vanishing into thin air, one fateful night. There is no authentic account of what really happened to the people of the Kuldhara village, and people from the abutting villages.
However, one popular belief is that a minister, by the name of Salm Singh, had fallen in love with the daughter of the clan chieftain. He threatened to levy heavy taxes on the village when his marriage proposal was turned down. It is rumoured that the chieftain, and his tribe, abandoned the village, in the dead of the night, to protect their honour. The ghost village is said to have a curse on it and was not inhabited again.
Jamali Kamali Masjid in New Delhi
The Jamali Kamali Masjid is in the Mehrauli area of the capital, very close to the Qutub Minar. The place is in a desolate place, covered with undergrowth and shrubs. It is purported as the most haunted place in Delhi. There are various stories of evil spirits residing in the masjid.You can sense a cold creepy feeling, as you step into Jamali Kamali. There are many claims made of apparitions and strange animals and lights being seen in the area.
The Lambi Dehar Mines in Mussoorie
The Lambi Dehar Mines were once a hub of activity, but they had to be shut after 50,000 workers died due to poor working conditions. It is reported that the workers used to mine limestone, and the fine dust severely damaged their lungs. They soon started coughing blood and died, as a result.
It is believed that the spirits of those miners haunt the area. There have been many accidents and unnatural deaths reported in that area.
Kalpalli Cemetery in Bangalore
The cemetery is located on the Old Madras Road and said to be haunted by an apparition that looks like a man. Many passers-by have sighted a strange figure loitering in the cemetery. People avoid crossing this stretch at night.
The Mansion in Pune
The Mansion on Residency Road in Pune is an old ramshackle building that looks as if its straight out of a horror movie. The palatial building is said to be haunted by the evil spirit of an old woman. There are many stories of strange unnerving sounds, frenzied laughter and spine-chilling shrieks emitting from this building.
