The little town of Bhangarh is located on the edge of a forest, and the Bhangarh Fort is located in the forested area. The fort has been the centre of many stories, movies and documentaries because of the horror stories associated with it. Visitors are warned against venturing into the fort area, after sunset.

An interesting tale of love, black-magic, revenge and murder are the foundation behind the famous folklore of the haunted fort. According to the story a sorcerer fell in love with a beautiful princess, who did not reciprocate his feelings. The sorcerer was desperate to win her over and decided to cast a spell on her. The princess came to know of his nefarious plan and had him killed. It is believed that before breathing his last, the sorcerer, cursed the fort and cast a spell on it, causing its downfall.

There are many local stories of the spirit of the sorcerer haunting the fort, at night.

Local fishermen have reported seeing unusual lights, called the Aleya Ghost lights, dancing over the marsh waters. The lights cast a sort of spell over the fishermen, causing them to become disorientated. Fishermen have known to have followed these lights, into the marshes, to their death.

Locals believe that the ghost lights are caused by the spirit of a fisherman who had died in the marshes. However, one popular belief is that a minister, by the name of Salm Singh, had fallen in love with the daughter of the clan chieftain. He threatened to levy heavy taxes on the village when his marriage proposal was turned down. It is rumoured that the chieftain, and his tribe, abandoned the village, in the dead of the night, to protect their honour. The ghost village is said to have a curse on it and was not inhabited again.

The Lambi Dehar Mines were once a hub of activity, but they had to be shut after 50,000 workers died due to poor working conditions. It is reported that the workers used to mine limestone, and the fine dust severely damaged their lungs. They soon started coughing blood and died, as a result.

It is believed that the spirits of those miners haunt the area. There have been many accidents and unnatural deaths reported in that area.
