If you’re from India, you sure as hell have one relative or friend who with his Dubai visa visited the place and posted images on social media about ‘livin the life!’

This article will do its best to not mention items which are a stereotype. If you expect items like — malls, hotels, buildings; this article may not suit you. You are still welcome to read.

For those who haven’t visited Dubai or in search of something different, this list will come in handy. Do read and not glance, it will not take a lot of time to finish and who knows, you might discover something new.

Not many of us in India get to explore out cities by air. In Dubai you can. Imagine sitting in a seaplane taking off from the waters of Dubai creek, soon you are above the very Dubai skyline which you see in numerous social media posts and TV. There’s something different about exploring a city by air.

2. Old school Markets

Dubai may have its malls and boutiques but nothing beats a good old market. There are a number of souks (traditional Arabian markets) in Dubai, selling wares that range from cheap electronics to glittering gold and simmering spices and exquisite cloth materials. Do remember to bring your haggling skills.

3. Watch a show at DUCTAC

DUCTAC or Dubai Community Theatre & Arts Centre is sort of the region’s capital for cultural programmes. With an aim to represent and celebrate the region’s diversity, you will find many a brilliant and entertaining programmes which will delight you heart and soul.

4. Go Back in Time

While you enjoy some of Dubai’s sights and scenes, why not try and understand the region’s past with a visit to Al Bastakiya? A cultural point where you can experience the Dubai of old with their houses and utensils before the oil economy boomed.

5. Witness the Midnight Sky

The desert has its own magic, doesn’t it? Sandboarding and safaris are common but have you thought of spending an entire night at the desert. You won’t get a clearer picture of the midnight sky than here. A sky full of stars.

6. A Water Park in the Desert

Did you seriously think Dubai won’t have a water park? The place’s reputation is built on unimaginable things. Visit the Wild Wadi Waterpark, it is the best one. You will have loads of fun getting wet.

7. Sail on an Abra

There’s something warm and relaxing about doing things old-school. Hop onto an abra (traditional wooden boat) to cross the Dubai creek. It’s cheap and a memorable experience.

One of the best aspects of a multicultural land is their food, especially street food. In Dubai, you will find Arabs, Europeans, Americans, South Americans, Asians, Australians; the entire world in a nutshell. You can imagine the range of tasty street food—shawarmas, kebabs, tacos, fish and chips, burgers, pizzas, pani puris, steaks, and so much more.

In the mad rush to see sights and scenes, we often forget to meet those who make these sights, the people. Dubai is like a mini United Nations. All nationalities live here. Speak to the locals, hear their stories, you will get a deeper appreciation for Dubai.
