Day 3

Enroute to Saharan we stopped at Padam Palace located in Rampur. Padam palace is property of the Royal Family of Bushahr. This Palace was built by late King Padam Singh and is 300-400 years old as told by the local people.

Day 4

After being stuck for 4.5 hours due to land slide we finally reached Chitkul at 8 pm all cold and shivering, temperature was -1 degree. Delicious hot food at the homestay saved us for the day.

Day 6

We reached Kalpa from Chitkul and stayed overnight at HPTDC Kinner Kailash Hotel. We started for Tabo the next day after breakfast at Kalpa, this is Baspa river at Rakchham Village enroute to Tabo.

Day 7

Inside Tabo Monastery. Tabo Monastery is located in the Tabo village. It was founded in 996 CE by the Tibetan Buddhist Rinchen Zangpo , on behalf of the king of western Himalayan Kingdom of Guge.

Tabo is the oldest continuously operating Buddhist enclave in both India and the Himalayas. A large number of frescoes displayed on its walls depict tales from the Buddhist pantheon.

There are many priceless collections of thankas (scroll paintings), manuscripts, well-preserved statues, frescos and extensive murals which cover almost every wall. The monastery is in need of refurbishing as the wooden structures are aging and the thanka scroll paintings are fading.

Day 8

Next day we started for Kaza, visited Giu monastery

We hiked to reach the Dhankar fort. Dhankar Monastery is a 16th century old fort monastery, which has also served as a prison in 17th century. The Dhankar Gomba (Buddhist temple) is over 1000 years old.

Langza village is also called Fossil Village and it known that Tethys Sea was located in this region once upon a time, so fossils of animals of living in Tethys sea are found till now.

Day 10

Losar village is the coldest village in Spiti Valley

Temperature drops to -10 degrees at night. At 8 a.m in the morning it was -5 degrees !!

Batal Bridge...it's time for road closure, end of tourist season...all the dhabas near Batal have wrapped up and left for lower altitude places.
