The residents of Jalandhar in Punjab woke up to an awe-inspiring display of the snow-capped Dhauladhar range on Friday after the COVID-19 lockdown led to a drastic drop in air pollution levels.

While many pay to flock to regions for such a view, the people in Jalandhar were in for a pleasant surprise when air quality cleared enough to present them with such magnificent scene.

The sight sent people into a tizzy and many took to social media to share the mountain vista which was seen after almost 30 years. The range located in Himachal Pradesh is almost 200 kms away from Punjab.

With the COVID-19 lockdown bringing heavy industries and automobiles, which contribute to toxic emission levels, to a screeching halt, the skies and air have become cleaner not only in India but all over the world.

Since the lockdown was put in effect on the midnight of March 24, over 90 cities including Delhi have reported minimal air pollution.

With people sticking to their homes, the nature seems to be rapidly healing itself to reclaim its former glory as evidenced by clearer skies and rarely seen animals taking to urban and suburban areas.

Even endangered species such as the Olive Ridley sea turtles in India and Hawksbill turtles in Brazil have come out to nest on the sandy shores of the sea.

The rapid rate at which nature is busily repairing itself in just a few days is being applauded by people all over the world and has brought many to the grave realisation of the kind of damage we've inflicted on Earth. The challenge now is to make sure we don't go back to our former destructive pace.
