There are very few places which give you a right mix of calm, crazy and adventurous feeling in one place and Bali fits the definition of having something to offer to every traveler.

Bali, a quick getaway for all the Indians, without the visa hassle had been on my mind for a long time and just a random plan made my wish come true. It was a girlfriend trip and I will tell you Bali is really safe for girls to travel.

The first thing that made me fall in love with Bali was the strategically located airport, which welcomes and gives you a tropical feeling as soon as you land. The beautiful ocean and landing strip just make you do all the ooohhh and aaahhh and get you Instagram and Snapchat stories just envy worthy! :P

I took a trip with a friend and we covered most of the main areas of Bali and Gili Islands in 7 nights and 8 days.

For all the Indian travelers I would suggest to take the Air Asia flight as its pocket friendly (apart from slightly small seat :P) and has amazing arrival and departure timings which give you an opportunity to use those days as well.

DAY 1

Day 6

After all the drinking and dancing you need some quit place to relax and Canggu beach is the place. It is a surfer beach ask you will find amazing waves and good surfers. You can also taking surfing lessons. Finns Beach Club’s is a nice place to hangout or you can just crash at the small shacks by the beach.

Our first stop was Ubud, the northern part of Bali which truly captured my heart and would go back to it in a heartbeat and a perfect combination of Eat, Pray and Love place. We spent 2 nights in Ubud.

It takes about 1.5hr from airport to reach Ubud and taxis can be slightly expensive, but you can easily find them at the arrivals. Take the bridge route as it is very scenic and gives you an amazing view of the coastline.

If you tell the cabbies that you are from India, first thing they will ask is how are their brothers (Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan):P and will sing all the Bollywood songs they have heard. Bali is very big on Bollywood and you will find a lot of clubs and stores playing all Hindi and Punjabi songs.

So back to Ubud, we were lucky that our cabbie suggesetd us to take us to the sliver, batik workshops and coffee plantation on our way to Ubud and helped us save time and money too.

Day 1

After seeing the batik printing, the next thing was just getting refreshed with some does the famous Shit Coffee :P (Luwak Coffee) and lots of tea tasting at Lumbung Sari Coffee. You get to taste different teas and coffees of no cost, we just paid for a cup of Luwak. If you love experimentation then you cannot miss this no matter how it tastes. Apart from the coffee you need to taste the Durain Tea, it has the pungent smell of the durian but it is worth it.

After a 9hour flight all I needed what a shot of tea and caffeine to get me going and explore all the paddy fields around me. Most of the hotels in Ubud are surrounded by the rice field and I happened to stay at one which was amidst a huge rice field and small lake called Sapulidi Resort and Spa. The staff was really helpful and friendly. Our room had an amazing open air bathroom, opened to the rice field and had an amazing four poster bed. The only problem we had was of the insects, but the rest of the ambience made us ignore the small glitch. It had an amazing pool looking over the rice fields.

It is the best place if you want to be away from the world, the resort was a small remote area in itself and would suggest to all the couples who don't want to be disturbed by anyone.

After sometime enjoying the room, we headed to explore the streets of Ubud and fell in love with the vibrancy and culture. All the stores and establishments offer flowers twice a day in morning and evenings. Ubud is very calm and quite place, you will not find many Indian tourists. The history and culture if Bali can be seen all around.

Our first touristic spot was the famous Sarawati Temple surrounded by the lotuses. Unfortunately we could not see the lotus bloom, but very lucky to find one lotus starting to bloom. Its located in the Ubud Market Street. The temples have a strict dress code, but at this temple you can enter in shorts or dresses.

The temple has a very beautiful cafe called the Lotus Cafe which serves food and drinks. The view from the seating area is so beautiful during the sunset that you would not want to leave the place. Also the best part was that it offered the most loved Indian snack of Cheese Samosa, now who can resist such an amazing thing.

The streets of Ubud are so lively and people from different parts of the world mix and mingle with you so easily that it is impossible to resist anything. The next thing I loved about the streets of Ubud and Bali in general is that at every nook and corner you will find Gelato kiosks and store with all the different flavors from Lemon grass to some berries which I have never heard of, so don't count the calories on this trip and enjoy all the flavors.

We had a different plant for the 1st day but it went for a toss and we ended up doing completely different things. Kecuk Dance which is generally seen by

We had a plan for spending the first day in a specific manner, but our plan went for a toss and we ended up doing things which we had not even thought of. One of those things happened to be the Kecuk Dance. It is generally recommended to be seen at the Uluwatu Temple at Sunset, but we ended up seeing it in Ubud. It is performed on Wednesday and Saturday evenings in Ubud and if you want to avoid a huge crowd, I would suggest you enjoy the performance in Ubud. The dance depicts a part of the famous Hindu Ramayana Story which hundred men chanting the monkey chants. It is one of the famous dance performance which you cannot miss. Even though we share the cultural believes with Bali, the depiction with costumes and look is so different that it will leave you mesmerized.

After a long day in Bali all you need is a chilled Bintang and some Reggae music to unwind and relax and that is what I did. Spent a chilled out evening at CP Lounge. It a big space in comparison to other lounges in Ubud. It has good bands performing, sheesha spots and a dance floor so that it can cater to everyone. It has a few options in vegetarian food on the menu. So this is a much go place to have a fun night.

Day 2

DAY 2

Day 2 started with waking upto this beautiful with rooster crowing as my alarm and opening my eyes to these beautiful rice fields. Morning in Ubud was just mesmerizing as it was a cloudy day so a perfect way to relax and unwind by the pool and I have said that I was living amidst the rice fields anywhere I looked I was in the fields.

The first thing we did on Day 2 was the Instagram and Wanderlust famous thing called the Bali Swing. Many of the cabbies and tourist guides will not know about this place. So just GPS and reach this beautiful place. You get to be in air and enjoy the beautiful Ubud air. You need to pay USD 22 to enjoy all the 3 swings and refreshments. It is a must go even though it is about an hour drive from Ubud. The fun this place offers is simply amazing.

I would advise to go to this place first thing in morning to avoid the crowd as you have to wait in queue to enjoy the swing and click pictures and take innumerable videos.

Since it was a rainy day in Ubud, we did not get a chance to go to Mt. Batur. The next stop on our itinerary was the Holy Spring Water Temple.

The Puri Tirta Empul or the Holy Spring Temple is a beautiful temple. Like the other temples you cannot enter the temple in shorts or short dresses, but don't worry the temple provides free sarongs to everyone so you can enter with ease. You can even take a bath in the hold spring pond.

After a bit of praying our next stop was the famous Rice Terraces. I did not have much time to do the whole walk, but if you have 3-4 hours to spend then have a complete walk. I just had a picture moment at the place.

Bali is never complete without meeting the cute baby monkeys and that is what I did. Spent the evening after all the hustle and bustle in the Monkey Forest with the baby monkeys and big monkeys as well. It was raining but we did not miss the fun and antics of the monkeys. It is recommended the no feed or disturb the monkeys, but they are not as notorious as they have been talked about. It was really cute to see Mama Monkeys feeding their babies and Daddy Monkeys trying to protect them from the rains.

After all the walking and talking a girl gets hungry and what can be better that finding home cooked food. Yes, I ended up finding the famous Indian Khichdi made exactly the way you would find at home in Bali. Since there is limited choice of vegetarian food, whatever you get is good. Kafe a cute little cafe in Ubud serves some amazing drinks and food and I love the chocolate platter and Khichdi. So if in Ubud and missing home food Kafe is the place to be.

After getting all the energy back, its time to party and spend the last few hours in Ubud going crazy and Laughing Buddha Bar is the place for that. I think this is one of the place and reason why Ubud has my heart. The place has such an amazing vibes with live bands every night. Amazing people and feel, you will never feel out of place. Just grab a few Bintangs and dance the night away. The best place is after the band they take song requests and place songs from different cultures and in different languages and when a desi girl is travelling and you get the Desi Girl song on, there is not stopping! :P So no matter what when in Ubud, Laughing Buddha Bar is a must!

Day 3

DAY 3

Time to Party!! Yes Day 3 started a bit early for us but I can do anything for some party time. We were on our way to the famous Gili Island and more specific the Gili Trawangan called the Party Island. It is recommended to buy your speed boat tickets 2 days in advance as the boats get full very quickly. I took the Wahana Speed Boat. The Padang Bai harbor is about 1.5hr drive from Ubud so you need to leave at 7:30am for the 9:00am boat. Most of the speed boat companies provide a pickup and drop service. It takes about 1.5hr from the harbor to reach Gili. The best part is you get Bintangs served on the deck, so the party starts in morning.

Welcome to Gili T!! We spent two days at this beautiful island and would go back to it in a blink of an eye. The only mode of transport on the island is horse cart, cycling or walking. So if you have heavy suitcases I would suggest take the cart to get dropped of at the hotel and then you could rent the cycle or just walk and explore the island.

Photo of Gili Trawangan, Gili Indah, North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia by Shivani Vyas

The harbor side of the island is filled with hostels, pubs and diving schools and the opposite side is for watching the beautiful sunsets and getting the pictures of another Instagram famous spot of the Sea Swing and the Sea Hammock. It is said that watching a sunset can make you dream many dreams and that's what I did on the two evening on the island. The sunsets are so beautiful that you would not want to move anywhere, just keep watching the sun go down and enjoy your drinks.

After the beautiful sunset, you just need some live music and on the party island to lift up the energy and when on beach everything you do is on the hammock and that's what I did. Enjoyed some good Reggae and Pop Music relaxing on the hammock.

The only work that you have on a Party Island is to Eat, Drink and Party and Sama Sama Reggae Bar is the place for it. The infamous bar with Bob Marley tributes is the place to be at night. The parites move from inside the clubs on the island to the sea shore late in night and there is no end to it.

Day 4

DAY 4

After a crazy party night, to get over the hangover you need some good food and when you have two of your favorite things at one place that is Food and clear blue Sea the day cannot go wrong.

Photo of Aston Sunset Beach Resort - Gili Trawangan, Gili Indah, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia by Shivani Vyas
Photo of Aston Sunset Beach Resort - Gili Trawangan, Gili Indah, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia by Shivani Vyas

Island is famous for its diving sites and I had to check it off my bucket list. Gili T has some of the best diving sites and school. I am a bit of hydrophobic but my dive was really amazing. I did my dive with Lombok Diving and the instructor was amazing, he held our hands and made the experience amazing. Unfortunately I don't have the fun underwater shots to share with you. :( But the highlight of the dive was getting to see the famous Gili Green Turtle at the end of the dive, so no matter how scared you are of diving, just be a sport and jump in the water. If you don't want to dive, snorkeling and glass bottom boats are your next options.

After all the bucket list check off, next thing to do was explore the island and party and what better place to go than Jiggy Bar and Party Boat. I did not go for the boat party, but spent a crazy evening and night. The pub has beer pong tables, tiki bars and the party moves from the pub to the sea shore. It is a must visit place on the island.

DAY 5

After a party night , it is difficult to wake up, but unfortunately we had to say goodbye to the Island , which believe me we did not want to. We took the first boat at 10:30am from Gili T and reached Bali by noon. After nearly 2.5 hour drive from the harbor we reached Seminyak. So I would suggest that if you are planning on doing some sight seeing, please cancel that. After all the parting and long drive you will be dead tired and the only thing I would suggest is to relax at one of the famous beach clubs.

Seminyak is one the posh and affluent area of Bali, the crowd is mostly mature and streets are filled with luxury and fashion boutiques. So if you want to relax and stay away from all the hustle and bustle of the youngsters and party goers I would recommend Seminyak. Anyways Kuta and other beaches are like 30mins rides, so now worries.

Day 5

I stayed at Ibis Styles in Petitenget. Its not like the usual Ibis business hotels. The hotel has a cute pool, a quirky reception and cute rooms. I spent 3 nights at this hotel and really enjoyed it. The breakfast spread is really nice. It is centrally located from the Seminyak and Petitenget beach, Potato Head Beach Club, Mirrors Clubs and other famous restaurants and pubs. The hotel also runs a shuttle to Potato Head and beach, so you can hop on the shuttle and enjoy the ride.

After a long boat and car ride to the hotel, the only way to unwind was to sip some cool cocktails and watch the sun go down and what better place than the Potato Head Beach Club. The best time to be there is around 4:00pm so you can catch the beautiful sunset. The place offers various seating options and most of them don't have cover charges. The sea loungers do have a cover charge but if you are in a big group, then that is worth it. Don't forget to carry your swimsuits and towels to enjoy the infinity pool. If you forget to carry your towels or don't want to lug them around you can rent them out at the club.

If Potato Head is on walking distance then what better place to enjoy a cool cocktail in the infinity pool and watch the sun go down. The best time to go is around 4:00pm so you can get a good place to sit and chill. There are different seating categories you can choose from and most of them don’t have cover charge except the sea facing beds. Remember to carry you swimsuits and towels to dry. If you forget towels don’t worry they rent it out so you won’t be left handing wet. :P

After relaxing and watching the sun going down, the next stop was the famous Ku De Ta Club. It is about 10-15mins walk from Potato Head and I would suggest to walk so you can enjoy the small boutiques and grab some gelatos on the way. Ku De Ta is a premium place located on the sea shore. If you want to spend a quite night with your better half then this is the place to be.

Photo of KU DE TA, Jalan Kayu Aya, Seminyak, Badung Regency, Bali, Indonesia by Shivani Vyas

After a good swim, some cocktails down and a beautiful sunset, it was time to explore some more nightlife and who wants to sleep when in Bali. So our next stop was the famous club Ku De Ta. It is another beautiful place to be with friends or loved ones. It is a slightly posh and mature place to be. They place some amazing music and you can just unwind and relax looking at the roaring waves.

Day 6

Day 6

After a fun night of drinking and dancing the best way to relax is sit by the beach and have a large coconut and that’s what we did at the surfer’s beach called Canggu Beach. The beach is famous for its surfing waves and if you don’t know how to surf you can take lessons and try you hand at surfing. Finns beach club is a nice place to hangout if you don’t want sit on the beach.

After all the dancing and drinking the only way to relax is by getting a traditional Balinese massage. Bodyworks is an amazing spa located in Seminyak offering amazing massage therapies. It a slightly expensive place but the experience and ambiance is worth it. I opted for 90mins Baliense massage with the flower filled bath later and it was just the thing that I needed after 5 days of travelling. I would highly recommend Bodyworks. The other cool spa that I was unable to go but would recommend is La Joya Spa which offers some amazing view.

This day was a relaxing day for us after hectic 5 days. So after the spa we just spent the afternoon at the hotel and enjoyed the pool.

Watching sunsets is my favorite thing and when in Bali how can we miss them, so this day we headed to the famous place of the Bali called the Uluwatu Temple. The temple offers you such amazing views from different angles that you would feel like you should be here everyday and see the sun go down. There are lot of monkeys as well so be careful. It is so beautiful to watch the waves crash and sun go down.

How can the sunset end without a chilled beer and some good music. Next stop on the way was the famous Rock Bar. I know that it is a sunset place, but you can't have best of both the worlds at one time.I would say after Ubud, Rock Bar was the highlight of my trip. The way to reach the bar is amazing, you have to cross the full resort then hop on a mini ride and you read the bottom of the cliff to the bar. At the entrance there is a small cave as well giving you the complete feel entering a closed off space. This was the only place where I found Bali Hai and Aloo Chaat so that is one other reason I love this place. :P

A tip  the bar has some rules - No shorts, No backpacks and no flipflops. You can leave your backpacks with the concierge at the entrance.

How can the day end so fast ? It did not, it was time to head to the most notorious and party place of Bali. Yes, the guess is correct our stop was Kuta. I would say when you reach Kuta it feels like you have entered Little India. Kuta is the most visited and preferred place of Indians. Apart from being famous for the clubs and parties it is full of Indian restaurants, malls and cheap shopping. If this is what you want to do then Kuta is the place.

If you want to go super duper crazy partying then I would suggest Kuta lane for it, but I was not very impressed with it . The best club to go would be Sky Garden and Paddy's Pub. Most of the good clubs in Kuta have cover charges which can be used up for beers and water only. There is no specific dress code to be followed. The highlight of these clubs for me was seeing them play Bollywood and Punjabi songs.

Safety Tip for girls - Don't answer back to any name calls or questions in the lane. The lane is safe but it is better to be careful and just take Blue Bird cabs only.

DAY 7

Day 7

After a fun night in Kuta, the only way to get over the hangover was to relax by the beach with chilled coconut and what better place than watching the big waves and surfers. Canggu Beach is famous as the surfing beach and is about 40mins cab ride from Seminyak. The beach is very quite away from all the Kuta hustle bustle. If you don't know how to surf you can take lessons as well. If you don't want to do anything then you can just rent sea loungers by the beach or head to the Finns Beach Club.

On your way to Canggu you can find cute small cafes and restaurants. Due to my sweet tooth and the heat I stopped to grab an  ice cream. There is an ice cream parlor called Creamery. They make amazing ice creams with different flavors and since I was in a tropical state of mind :P I has a Tropical Thunderstorm - Pinacolda version of Ice Cream. For all Indians looking for some good veg India food, there is a restaurant next to the ice cream parlor you can try, unfortunately I don't remember the name.

Photo of Creamery, Jalan Pantai Berawa, Tibubeneng, Badung Regency, Bali, Indonesia by Shivani Vyas

On you way to Canggu you will cross the famous picturistic restaurant called La Laguna. I did not have the time to check it, but would highly recommed to everyone if you have time. Go try the food and click all the cute pictures for you Instagram

My last evening was a quite evening filled with the shopping spree. For all the souvenirs and gift shopping I would suggest Kuta is the place, there are lots of gift shops and street shopping where you can bargain a lot.

For more affluent and luxury shopping I would recommend Seminyak as it houses lots of boutiques for the beautiful beach and swim wear.

You will find lot of factory outlets of Polo and Billabong in Bali so hoard you suitcases. Visit Nico Nico for the cute swim wears and bikinisr.

One of my favorite store was a lifestyle store called Kim Soo, I loved the straw bags, rugs and jewelry boxes. It also has a cute cafe over looking the street. Do drop by this store in Seminyak

DAY 8

Day 8

It was my last morning in Bali with few hours before I had to catch a flight and head home. I have talked about the sunsets all along but I do love sunrises as well and I made some efforts to wake up early can catch up with the world. Even though I could not get there on the correct time, I spent my last few hours watching the city wake up and welcome the new day at the Seminyak Beach.

The beach is full of families walking the dogs, joggers running by the sea and surfers taking the lessons. I got an opportunity to catch a Balinese version of Baywatch with tourist in surfing school uniform warming up before hitting the waves.

Photo of Seminyak Beach, Bali, Indonesia by Shivani Vyas

After a few quite hours on the beach and remembering the week I spend in Bali all I wanted to do was not pack my bags at all. Bali is one of the places where no one will judge on who you are, how you look and what you wear. You can be yourself and just enjoy what you want to do and that made me nearly miss my flight back. :P

When you read this you might feel it is a very long itinerary but I just wanted to share things to do at a very chilled and relaxed pace. I would suggest you would need atleast 10days to see the full island. So just pack you bags and head to Bali!
