Udaipur,
Udaipur had been on my bucket list for a long time now. Finally, I got a chance to visit the beautiful city on New Year's with my friends.
I will keep it crisp and short, this post will contain the itinerary and cost of travel. Also, the trip wasn't very cheap but neither expensive. It was more of a getaway for us and we wanted to have a relaxed trip.
Important points -
1. You can rent scooty/bike/car or travel the entire city by auto. We chose Auto/by foot which costed us around INR 100-150/per day/person.
2. Hathi Pol market is closed on Sundays.
3. Buy Liquor before 8pm as after that you'll have to pay extra.
4. Keep INR 500-800/meal. Also, depends on the kind of restaurants you choose.
Day 1 : Flight from Lucknow to Udaipur (INR 3800/-) If you take a flight from Delhi, it will just cost you (INR 2000-2500/-)
Ola and Uber is available but drivers do not go as per that. You need to book a taxi or auto/tempo (INR 500-600) depending on your negotiation skills.
Udaipur highway is beautiful and takes about an hour to reach the city. We reached out hotel/homestay (http://www.hariniwasudaipur.com/) which was behind the City Palace. They have complimentary breakfast and tea/coffee.
[Stay from 30th Dec to 2nd Jan costed INR 3600/person ]
One can book the tickets to 'Bagore ki Haweli' cultural show (INR 100/person) Book them online because the tickets run out too soon. We couldn't get the tickets so we walked to the City Palace for Light and Sound show which is a good one-time watch. (INR 200/person)
Had dinner at one of the rooftop restaurants and slept in for the next day.
Day 2 : We had planned the entire day for City Palace. A must visit!
Ticket prices : Palace (INR 300/person) There are some discounts for people in defence and students.
Boat ride in Lake Pichola is a must [INR 200/person (until 3pm) INR 400/person (after 3pm)] The boat takes you to Jagmandir which is located in the centre of the lake. You can have a royal lunch over there as well in the middle of the lake.
Have lunch at Upre, Ambrai, Baromasi or any of the best in town restaurants.
Then we visited Jagdish temple. Takes about 15-20mins for darshan and photos.
We headed to Karni Mata ropeway and temple (INR 87/person) The view of the city from that height is magnificent. Not a must visit but if you have time, definitely a one time place it is.
Then, we had booked a table for 31st night dinner which was inclusive of INR 1000/person cover charges. We had dinner, enjoyed the celebration and came back to the hotel by 2am in the night.
Day 3 : Road trip to Chittorgarh.
You can book a self-drive car but charges for that are high from 22nd Dec to 3rd Jan. So, we booked an SUV for 5 people from morning 9am to evening 9:30pm (INR 5000/- ; INR 1000/person)
The massive Chittorgarh fort is a must visit for it's history and valour of Rani Padmini and Rawal Ratan Singh.
You see the entire fort by car because it is impossible to cover the 700acres fort by foot. One must also hire a guide who will take care of the multiple number of tickets and only charge INR 500/- inclusive of everything.
We had dinner at this beautiful restaurant 'Sangria'.
Day 4 : Last day in the city!
We went to Fateh Sagar Lake. Did not do a Boat ride as we lacked time. Visited the Maharana Pratap Museum (INR 100/person)
Visited Saheliyon ki Baari, a beautiful place for getting your pictures clicked.
The Hathi Pol market was closed as it was a Sunday.
Bought a few delicacies of sweets. Came back to the Hotel and just casually spent some time buying jewellery at the market near City Palace. Also known as 'Bhatiyaani Chowhatta' road.
Then, by 3pm booked an auto to the Railway Station (INR 100).
How I travelled back : Train from Udaipur - Delhi - Lucknow. (INR 2000/-)
