Udaipur also popularly known as the city of lakes is set around a series of artificial lakes and is known for its lavish royal residences.
How to reach Udaipur
You can travel via flight or rail or bus.
Once you are in the city you can hire a two-wheeler or a 4 wheeler for your travel in and around the city
Where to stay
As I was a solo traveller I had stayed in a hostel but if you are coming in a group you can stay at a good hotel, just ensure that you stay within the city to enjoy the facilities.
Where to eat
Sukhadia Circle - Sukhadia Circle (square) is large roundabout in the city's northern suburb and is a recreational centre. The square has in its centre, a small pond amidst which lies a high three-tiered fountain. The fountain, made of marble is surmounted by a wheat-ear motif, a symbol of prosperity.
You can find many great food stalls and hotels at the roundabout.
Cafe satori is a really sophisticated and wonderful cafe in the main city.
The food is nice as well are the owners, they are very kind and you can ask them for any guidance if required.
Where to visit
City palaces main entrance is through the triple-arched gate. This gate leads to a series of courtyards, overlapping partitions, terraces, corridors and gardens. The palace now houses a museum with many antique articles, paintings, decorative furniture and utensils from the royal era.
Situated over an island in Lake Pichola, the Lake Palace was constructed to serve as a royal summer palace. Built of white marble, the palace is now a luxury 5 Star hotel, operating under the "Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces".
The Jagdish Temple is a large Hindu temple in the middle of Udaipur. A key tourist place in the city.
Jag Mandir is a palace built on an island in the Lake Pichola. Also known as the "Lake Garden Palace" The royal family used the palace as a summer resort and pleasure palace. the access to the temple is via a boat ride through Lake Pichola.
Shri Manshapurna Karni Mata Temple is a Hindu temple located near the Doodh Talai Lake. One can have a very beautiful view of the whole city and its lakes from the temple as well as while climbing. The walk is pollution-free as no vehicles can enter in the hill boundary, I being the solo traveller took the ropeway which also had a beautiful view and fast access to the temple.
Lake Pichola is an artificial freshwater lake and is one of the several contiguous lakes in the city of Udaipur. The lake's surroundings and the several islands within the lake have been developed over the centuries, with palaces, marble temples, family mansions, bathing ghats (Gangaur Ghat, Ambrai Ghat, Hanuman Ghat) and chabutaras (a raised platform, normally within a courtyard)
Fateh Sagar Lake is an artificial lake situated in the north-west part of Udaipur. It also houses an aquarium named 'Under the Sun'.
Badi lake or tiger lake
This lake is a little far from the city, but what's good about this lake is that this lake is surrounded by hills making this place pleasant and calming. The most lovely place to watch the sunrise.
Monsoon Palace, also known as Sajjan Garh Palace, was built as an astronomical centre to keep track of the movement of monsoon clouds in the area and also served as the summer resort of the Maharanas. The palace has a view of the city's lakes, palaces, and surrounding countryside.
Udaipur-Sahelion Ki bari
Sahelion ki Bari is a garden and tourist space in the northern part of the city. The garden with its fountains and kiosks, a lotus pool and marble elephants.
FYI: It is called sahelion ki bari because it was made for all the women who came with the queen.
Kesariyaji Temple temple is dedicated to lord Rishabh dev, the first Jain Tirthankara. The fifty-two pinnacles of the temple are seen from a long distance. The main idol in the temple is of Tirthankara Rishabha, carved in black stone. It is further away from the city but it is worth the drive.
Once you are done with your breakfast you can start your day by visiting the city palace, as it is a big place it would take a minimum of 2 to 3 hours to watch the palace. After that, you can visit the Jagdish temple and then you can have your lunch at cafe satori. Following which you can visit Karni Mata via the ropeway or climbing the staircase, enjoy the view from the top and then go ahead towards lake Pichola for a boat ride to Jagmandir as the day ends you can enjoy the beautiful sunset from the lake and go-ahead for dinner at sukhadia circle, post-dinner you can go for a wonderful walk with a beautiful view at Vibuthi park and get back to your stay to take some rest.
To ensure to have a glimpse of the sunrise you will have to head towards the Badi lake before time as this location is approximately 12 -15 km further from the city. The beauty of this place is the route of the place, it gives a view of a never-ending expanse providing a serene and calm atmosphere after enjoying the sunrise you can head for Sajjan Garh and the sahelion ki bari and you have covered most of Udaipur if required you can split the places and extend another day for some rest and shopping.
