Udaipur, the city of lakes even better known as the Venice of the East is one of the most amazing places I have ever been. If you have a flavour for picturesque landscape, lakes, and historic palaces and architecture you are in for a treat.

City Palace of Udaipur. This palace showcases royalty at its best

I boarded the bus from Gujarat, there a lot of frequent buses available at affordable prices on Redbus. I lied down in the sleeper seat and as the bus accelerated I looked at the night sky and watched the stars move and play its own music. It was as if I was watching a dream, slowly I went into deep slumber

That awesome bus. Doesn't it look like a disco

I reached Udaipur early in the morning. We had booked our rooms at Zostel. I suggest even you stay at Zostel. The rooms are affordable and it has great view of the lake Pichola from its terrace. Overall it is a different experience. It will give you that backpacker feel. You will meet a lot of interesting people in the common room they have. It is not like the conventional hotels where you just stay in your room.

Later in the day I went to the Udaipur City Palace. You will be mesmerized by its glamour and royalty. The palace is as beautiful inside as it is on the outside. Take a guide and he will get you through the history of the place. I also went to this place called “Saheliyon Ki Bari”. It is the place where the women of the royal palace used to spend their evenings. You will find some magnificent colors in flowers, if you go there during flowering season. I also visited Nehru Park which is near Fateh Sagar Lake, it is small ecological park. The park is in on a small island. The ferry ride to the park at the time of sunset was a good experience. The sunset was beautiful turning the hills golden as the sun slowly hid behind them.

Sunset at Fateh Sagar Lake

The next day I strolled around in the city in the morning, visited a few temples and explored the local food and traditions. In the afternoon I decided to go to the Sajjangarh Fort. It is about 12 kms away from the main city. I took a cab through Ola and reached the fort at the perfect timing of the sunset. I suggest you to visit the fort in the evening. A lot of people gather to watch the sun set over the marvelous city of Udaipur. Next day I left for Gujarat early in the morning.
