Day 1

One Sunday on a work visit to Karkala, I found myself with some time on my hands. The town was a major Jain center in old days and various structures from this era can be seen throughout the town. With its reach history and architectural bounty, Karkala is a must visit place if you are in the vicinity.

With the help of a local friend, I was able to visit Chaturmukha Basadi and the Gomateshwara statue. There are many other great spots worth visiting  in the town such as  Anekere lake,Lord Ananthashayana basadi, Attur church,Padutirupathi Venkataramana Temple which all can be visited in a single day.

The temple has 4 entrances facing each side, and is supposedly supported by 108 pillars which are intrinsically carved.

The carvings can be seen on almost every inch of the granite. This here is a picture of the roof.

The basadi faces the Gometeshwara statue which is situated on hilltop opposite, seen in the distance.
