The world is facing a water crisis due to the climate change issue. The carbon footprint from various sources like cement industry, automobile, a huge increase in the use of Ac and refrigerator. These factors have impacted the day to day life of humans and broke the natural life cycle of the world.

In this crisis one man who is concern about the rapid change which has reached an alarming stage.

The small but impactful solution to this problem is Ice Stupa. The people of Ladakh face a huge problem in the cropping season when they need the water most. During the period of April-June, when the need for water is a peek. it is not available.

Whenever there is a problem then there is a solution to it. The problem of water impacted the people of Ladakh So the need for a solution has been felt. The man who reforming education in the region came up with the solution to it. It was in the form of “Ice Stupa”.

The name Ice Stupa signifies the Holy Stupas of Buddhism and an example of peace. The melted water in the winter has no use for the villagers(except drinking and daily use) and a major amount of it goes to Indus river. The idea to use this unused water and freeze it, in the form of a shape which can retain a huge amount of water and melt easily during need.

The shape of a cone is best suited for it which can retain a huge amount of water and due to the shape its melt slowly.

The water from the upper valley springs is being taken through the pipe which is 4-7 feet deep underground to avoid freezing. Then a sprinkler is used to spread the water in fine droplets, so it could freeze suddenly. The simple and useful science has helped to make such marvel. It can eradicate the water problem in the valley.
