As coronavirus cases continue to spiral in India, there is increasing uncertainty about even the most certain and well-planned events. Amid these unprecedented times, while most events and social gatherings are getting postponed, a couple decided to go ahead with their wedding even as the man contracted the virus. The couple from Madhya Pradesh solemnized their wedding by taking vows wearing PPE kits after the bridegroom tested positive for COVID-19.

Wedding and other social as well as religious gatherings have already been affected amid increasing cases after government put a cap on attendees to curb the spread of infection. Currently, only 50 guests are allowed to attend weddings with all COVID-19 precautions in places. However, the pandemic tested the love of this couple even more as the groom's COVID-19 report put the whole wedding in a limbo.

In what can be seen as the triumph of love over pandemic, the couple decided to tie the knot even as authorities tried to stop them.

Couple ties the knot in PPE kits

In a video posted by news agency ANI, the couple as well as the priest and other attendees can be seen wearing PPE kits while the bride and the groom take pheras as part of the wedding rituals. The nuptial ceremony took place in a marriage hall in Ratlam where only a few close family members can be seen in attendance.

As soon as the officials got to know about the wedding, they rushed to the venue to stop it. But permission was granted on the couple and their family members' request.

"The groom tested positive on April 19. We came here to stop the wedding but on the request and guidance of senior officials, the wedding was solemnized. The couple was made to wear PPE kits so that the infection doesn't spread,'' Navin Garg, a district official, was quoted by ANI as saying.

India battles second COVID-19 wave

India is currently battling the second wave of coronavirus with record number of infections reported every single day. On April 26, the country reported 3,23,144 new cases taking the tally to 17.64 million COVID-19 infections and 1,97,894 deaths. Amid record hospitalizations and oxygen crisis, the health infrastructure has crashed. There is no place even for dead as crematoriums have hours-long queues of dead bodies waiting for final rituals.

The least people can do amid such health crisis is to take all precautions and stay at home. Make your contribution by taking care of yourself. Double up your mask and avoid all unnecessary outings.
