The Nanomads are back from the Mongol Rally 2016 and we have a reason for a big celebration.
Driving a Tata Nano across 13 countries in last two months, Sunaina, Bhairav and Binoy, successfully completed the Mongol Rally 2016. On this moment of success, the trio is celebrating their incredible journey and all the amazing experiences they had during the rally.
Almost three months ago, before the start of the rally, we interviewed the team about the then upcoming fundraising rally.
"The idea was first mooted by Bhairav, and the two of us agreed without really knowing what we were signing up for. A month later we were sitting with a map of Eurasia and here we are!" shared Sunaina.
A lot has happened since then. To add to the feat, the team spent 2 months travelling from London to Mongolia without spending a penny on accommodation.
The idea sounds like a dream and to give you a sense of the magnitude of what these Nanomads have accomplished, here's their route map.
Across 13 countries, crossing 18200 km, stopping at 61 fuel stops, driving for 48 days. 6 run-ins with cops, 2 bent wheels and without a single breakdown, here they are... VICTORIOUS!
If you are wondering about what the Mongol Rally is all about, here are the rules of the game:
1. You can only take a farcically small vehicle with less than 1000 cc or an engine size with a capacity of up to one litre.
2. The team is completely on its own.
3. Raise a minimum amount of £1000 for charity.
In this challenging rally, the team crossed 5 mountain ranges, 3 river crossing and 1 massive desert. But the changing terrain was not the biggest challenge they faced. They were denied entry at Russian borders and stranded in the middle of the desert in Mongolia and these hiccups along the way are what made the journey unforgettable.
