Why Everyone Should Take a Road Trip with Family

Taking a road trip can be a rite-of-passage or just a way to have fun while traveling. Next time you need to travel somewhere, consider planning a road trip in lieu of buying a flight. Here are a few reasons why every family should take a road trip.

1. You find unexpected places.

One of the greatest things about a road trip is all the new sights you get to see. When taking a road trip, chances are you'll be stopping at random, small towns along the way. You can even stay in nice hotels, with fancy interior glass doors and luxury whirlpool tubs.

Flying might get you from Point A to Point B, but a road trip turns your travel into an experience. You get the chance to meet people you never thought you would and have a conversation. You also get to see some quirky, interesting destinations.

2. You can relax.

Flying tends to be stressful for a lot of people. Many people experience fear and anxiety on flights and even have to take medication. Even if you don't have a fear or flights, flying typically means long lines and cramped spaces.

Taking a road trip gives you time to take a deep breath and just relax.

3. There are no wrong turns.

One great aspect of a road trip is the versatility. Become a true explorer by stopping to ask for directions and eating at hidden gems. Even with a wrong turn, you can find a new adventure and a new experience.

Try to converse with the locals and just take in everything that seems foreign.

4. You meet lots of people.

Most people that fly are in a hurry, stressed and don't feel like having a conversation. The many people you meet along your road trip aren't stressed from travel, and typically love conversing with travelers.

You will meet people that are both diverse and foreign. You can learn new names and even new ways of living.

5. You'll feel the open road.

There's nothing quite like driving down a lone stretch of road with only a few vague directions. Not only will you be more relaxed, you will feel completely free.

With nothing ahead of you and nothing behind, you will feel like you've left all your inhibitions at home.

6. You'll live in the moment.

Nothing will put you in the moment like a long drive. With plenty of time for thinking while behind the wheel, you will never be more aware or observant. With nothing holding you back and good car insurance for peace of mind, a road trip is a great time to think about life.

That awareness of your surroundings is a skill that will stay with you for years to come.

7. You gain a new perspective.

People are often stuck in the small bubble where they live. After I finished drug rehab, going on a road trip with my family was the best thing for me. Taking a road trip is one of the best ways to get a more diverse point of view. Even just traveling across state lines can give you a whole new perspective.

If you keep an open mind, you might even learn a thing or two.

8. You make strong bonds.

When going on a road trip, you should consider who's riding shotgun. With so many new experiences, you're sure to form a bond with whoever is by your side.

On a road trip, strangers can turn into friends and friends can turn into family.

9. You can be spontaneous.

When you fly, travel schedules tend to be strict and rigid. On a road trip, you can make spontaneous decisions to have new experiences You never truly know what might happen on a road trip.

Spotty cell coverage while driving even gives you a chance to put the screen down and focus on what's around you. It can be nice to turn off the electronics, even if just for a few hours.

Taking a road trip should be on everyone's list of things to do. Not only are you guaranteed to have a great time, you'll open yourself up to plenty of new opportunities.
