Macao (Casino Capital) is that one place I want to visit in China. It’s overflowing with beautiful buildings & monuments, delicious food, shopping markets & many more countless things you can experience. It’s a paradise for entertainment lovers and the mix of Chinese & Portuguese culture is something very interesting.

20 Things to do in Macao (on a budget):

1. Walk on the streets of Macao: I heard the streets of Macao are full of wave patterned mosaic coloured stones & Portuguese styled walls & windows. I want to feel the cozy relaxing feel on these streets.

2. Get to Monte Forte & see Macao from above: It is a public park, observatory, museum built in 16 century military base. We get a stunning view over Macau from here. It’s free of cost & is very near to St. Paul.

3. Take a selfie at the Ruins of St.Paul: This is the highlight of Macao & main touristic attractions. I heard it’s incredibly crowded & necessary to grab a tour guide who could explain the Portuguese history architecture & art.

4. Play poker at Casino: Hehe, not that i want to gamble but, because this city is know for it’s Casinos, I too want to try my luck. I read online that gambling is main reason Macao attracts visitors.

5. Stroll down the Senado Square: This is Macau’s urban centre where all the big events & national holiday celebrations take part. I heard that it looks stunning at night times.

6. Staying in City of Dreams - Morpheus: It is a 5 star hotel with an outdoor swimming pool. It’s a very popular & expensive place to stay in & if possible I would like to spend a night there.

7. Munch on Pastéis de nata: I’m a foodie & love to try everything. I read online that food in Macao is so flavourful. It’s gonna a be a feast for me, haha. The cheap delicacies here are seafood, pork/beef & egg tarts(Pastéis de nata) which I can’t wait to taste.

8. Visit the A-Ma temple: With all the traditional Chinese temples to visit in Macao, this is the most famous one.

9. Watch the World’s largest water show: For entertainment, The House of Dancing Water, is the longest running & most successful show in Macau. It’s a 90 minutes show full of high energy, mind blowing stunts, stunning scenery featuring acrobats, dancers, actors, divers, motorcyclists.

10. Try the World’s highest Bungy jump: I want to experience the ultimate free fall. Will also try out sky jump , sky walk, that are slightly less terrifying. Who can say no to breath taking panoramic view of Macau city.

11. Visit Olympic Aquatic centre: All the international competitions are held here. I heard the water here is sanitised using ozone instead of chlorine.

12. Try swimming in Venetian Pool: This is one of the four pools located outdoors. And, I mainly want to get in the spa pool.

13. Visit Chimelong ocean kingdom park: Who doesn’t want to visit the world famous water park. I heard the water rides here are imported & most of them are award winning.

14. Will have Macanese cuisine: This is a blend of southern Chinese cuisine & Portuguese ingredients, spices & cooking techniques. Who can say no to this fusion dish.

15. Eat Macau’s seafood: Macau is known for it’s seafood & there are many seafood restaurants here. Grilled fish is very popular & want to have it.

16. Hike at Guia hill: Want to experience the spectacular panoramic view over Macao from here. I heard the place is fresh & calming.

17. Have a look at Kun Iam Statue: The 20m tall bronze figure is the only statue in the world of goddess of mercy that is not facing the sea and is on top of Macao’s finest Buddhist temples.

18. Going to Fisherman’s Wharf: I read online that Fisherman’s Wharf is a replica of Colosseum in Rome. To make sure I have enough pictures for my feed I’m gonna visit this Instagram worthy place.

19. Walk around Old Taipa Village: This is one of the two traditional villages with narrow lanes & alleys & colours colonial houses. Also, heard it’s the home of Taipa Houses Museum, Ria Do Cunha, our lady of Carmel Church & Carmel Garden.

20. Go to Macau’s Eiffel Tower: I heard that one can get the feel of Paris from Parisian Macau. It’s a newest land mark of the city & perfect for a romantic date.

From a backpackers perspective, the only problem is highly expensive hotels. But, still it is a worthy place to visit & explore the colonial attractions. To anyone, who don’t know, Macao is the only place that allows visa-free entry to citizens of most countries & where gambling (biggest source of revenue) is legal. I gave 20 reasons why you should travel to Macao and, I planned a spellbinding trip to Macao city as well. Can’t wait to be there!
