We all know that Sydney is known for its summers. The endless golden beaches, outdoor bars, coffee shops, and restaurants, enchanting bays have made this city so famous. But don't fret just because the weather has cooled down and winter is setting in, there are so many winter destinations around Sydney.

Bilpin is a beautiful small town, located on the western fringes of the Blue Mountains. Surrounded by quaint countryside, cool climate, larger than life landscapes, this pretty little town on the Bells Line of Road 90 minutes from the CBD has long been known as Sydney's fruit bowl, producing stone fruit, figs, persimmons, pears, blueberries, and chestnuts, as well as several varieties of apples. Whilst the rest of the world may flock to Bilpin between January to May, I recommend you to visit ( and stay) in Bilpin during the cooler months of Autumn and winter.

Maples, Bilpin

Did you know? :

Bilpin on Bell's Line of Road east of the town of Bell was originally named 'Belpin' after Archibald Bell Jr, who, in 1823 when he was only nineteen, crossed the Blue Mountains and was suitably honored by having the town named after him.

This area had been occupied by the Dharug Aboriginal people for an estimated 40,000 years before Europeans arrived.

It is believed that the first European to reach the area was the former convict Matthew Everingham who in 1795, with Reed and Ramsay, set out to explore and find a way over the mountains.

When goldfields were discovered in Bathurst, that is when Bells lines of road was used the most to reach Bathurst from Sydney.
