By the time I realized, it was already too late!

Like so many of you, I’d heard the relentless hype about Kedarkantha—'If you didn’t make it to Kedarkantha this New Year, did you even celebrate?' The buzz was everywhere, and curiosity got the better of me. So, on a lazy afternoon, I picked up the phone and started making calls to my friends to see if anyone was up for the adventure. Usually, planning a trip with friends is like trying to assemble the Avengers—everyone’s busy, schedules clash, and it rarely works out. But this time? It was like the universe conspired in our favor. Out of the six friends I called, five said YES instantly! I couldn’t believe it. We were all in. Little did we know, though, that the real journey was about to take an unexpected turn!

We booked the trip through Ahvaan—5 days and 4 nights for ₹6,000 per person. The deal sounded too good to pass up! The package included meals, stay, and even the pick-up and drop-off from Dehradun. On paper, it checked all the boxes, and we thought we were in for the kind of life-changing adventure you see on Instagram. But oh, how wrong we were.

What started as an exciting trek quickly turned into a chaotic, overcrowded nightmare. From the very first day, it felt less like an expertly planned journey and more like a chaotic school trip. The inclusions seemed like a bargain, but the experience? Well, that was anything but. Kedarkantha, with its stunning snow-covered peaks and breathtaking views, was completely overrun by crowds. Instead of the tranquil mountain escape we envisioned, it felt like a never-ending human stampede, with no room to breathe or reflect.

Imagine this: I had pictured myself hiking peaceful trails, surrounded by snow-kissed views, far from the noise of everyday life. Instead, I found myself amidst a crowd so large, it resembled Vaishno Devi during its peak season—people everywhere, queues that seemed to stretch endlessly, and not a single quiet moment to appreciate the landscape. The trek’s management felt more like a madhouse than a serene escape—guides scrambling to keep order, trekkers elbowing their way through narrow paths as if they were competing for the last slice of cake. Tranquility? Nowhere to be found. What we got instead was an adrenaline-fueled, people-watching spectacle I’ll never forget—but not for the right reasons.

By the fourth day, we had reached our breaking point. The endless crowds, the overwhelming rush, and the lack of any real connection with nature had us completely drained. That’s when we made a bold decision: we ditched the group, left the guides behind, and set off on our own to catch the sunset. It was a gamble, but we were desperate for a taste of the peaceful escape we had envisioned when we first booked the trip. And, finally, we found it. As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in fiery shades of orange and pink, we stood there—alone, in complete silence, surrounded by nothing but the mountains. For the first time on this trip, we finally felt the Kedarkantha magic we had been craving.

So, here’s the conclusion: If you’re someone who wants to truly connect with nature, looking for a quiet, peaceful place to unwind, Kedarkantha during peak season may not be for you. The crowds, the chaotic management, and the overwhelming hustle can easily overshadow the beauty of this place. Sometimes, the most stunning destinations require more effort and patience to experience in solitude. If peace and quiet are what you seek, it might be time to skip the trendy hotspots and find your own hidden gem.
