You Can Soon Sip on a Cocktail in the World's First Space Hotel

Tripoto

If you've been stashing money away in your piggy bank for that world trip by 2025, you might want to reconsider your destination choices. Instead of the sunny Bahamas, you could find yourself looking down on Earth and sipping a c0cktail by the bay window in space.

Designs for the 'first space hotel' are out, complete with 'Earth view' cabins and artificial gravity to prevent guests from floating around with Beluga caviar in hand. The orbiting space structure is the brainchild of the Gateway Foundation and is expected to accommodate 400 astro-tourists.

Christened the Von Braun Space Station, the space hotel will be way different from the white and sterile decor that the International Space Station seems to prefer. Modelled instead like a luxury cruise with restaurants, bars, cinemas and educational seminars, you could well find yourself tap-dancing in space.

The hotel has been designed in the shape of a wheel with a diameter of 190 metres. Varying levels of artificial gravity will be created with two rotating concentric rings by increasing or decreasing the rate of rotation. If you find yourself bobbing along a corridor mysteriously, you'll know what's up.

Since we're all fans of cushy hotel beds and other whimsical luxurious settings, the space hotel will have soft furnishing and homely colours. Yeah, probably with a mini-fridge that you can raid later at night. There will be 24 individual pods with all sleeping facilities inside.

The space hotel is slated to be open to tourists by 2025 and guests are expected to arrive by a space shuttle. Space travel is set to become a reality and as Gateway Foundation's Tim Alatorre told Dezeen, eventually going to space will just be another option people will pick for their vacation, just like going on a cruise, or going to Disney World.
