Just to clear things out, this is not some baseless fragment of imagination or a dream sequence from a cheesy Bollywood film. In a move to restore tourism in the valley, Kashmir is about to get its first Vistadome train! And trust me when I say it, this one will make you want to pack your bags right away!
What are Vistadome trains?
Vistadome trains, commonly referred to as glass ceiling or glass top trains have fascinated travellers for a long time now. After successful runs in different parts of the world including Switzerland and Peru, these trains are slowly yet strongly finding their way to India. The glass ceilings in these luxury trains add a completely new dimension to train journeys, letting travellers soak in the natural beauty, on the go!
Why Kashmir?
After enthralling travellers on the Mumbai-Goa line and Visakhapatnam-Araku line, Vistadome trains will soon be introduced in Kashmir to boost tourism in the valley. The Union Railway Minister along with Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister have proposed a 40-seater Vistadome train that will run through the valley. Not only is the train expected to revive tourism in the valley but will also offer travellers an experience unlike any other. Enjoy a luxurious ride while marvelling at scintillating views of the Kashmir Valley.
What are the luxuries one can expect on this train?
The state-of-the-art coaches are expected to come laden with all modern amenities, making train journeys cool again. To start off, the seats on the train will offer passengers ample legroom, push-back facility and will allow rotation to facilitate great views. Speaking of views, the trains most important feature, the glass ceilings will come with electrically controlled opalescence, letting passengers control the transparency of the glass.
In addition, the train comes fully equipped with a GPS-based information system, LED lights, television screens and automatic sliding compartment doors. Finally, in order to promote Kashmir's rich culinary heritage, passengers will be served authentic, Kashmiri Wazwan cuisine. Well, we can't think of a single reason to not go for this now!
What about the train's routes and timings?
Coaches of Vistadome trains are designed especially to tackle extreme weather. Therefore, it is most likely that the train will ply between Banihal to Baramulla (112km) throughout the year. Exact operational timings for the train are yet to be announced.
