If you're planning your next vacation and haven't made the bookings yet, then I have a great surprise for you.
India will now have a brand new domestic carrier, Zoom Air – the brand name for Zexus Air Services, which means adding new destinations to the existing connectivity map.
Zoom Air is officially the 12th operational domestic carrier that would start commercial services from February 15 with a flight to Durgapur via Kolkata from New Delhi.
What's new about Zoom Air?
The Gurgaon-based airline is expected to prioritise areas that have not been focused on by existing airlines.
Also, the carrier's aircrafts produced by Bombardier are versatile for short sectors flying and aptly suited for Indian Tier II and Tier III cities.
And additionally, the company’s director Koustav M Dhar has announced that it would have a 1:1 ratio of female pilots on board.
What will be the route?
The airline plans to connect major cities such as Mumbai and Delhi to underserved parts of the country, such as Shillong, Dharamshala, Ziro Valley in Arunachal Pradesh.
Over the next few months, Zoom Air has stated that it will add daily flights to Aizawl, Aurangabad, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Dimapur, Hyderabad, Kullu, Jorhat, Lucknow, Ranchi, Mumbai, Srinagar and Shillong.
“Zoom Air shall fill the gap of sectors that are less catered to by other scheduled airlines. We are termed a premium commuter airline, with on-board Zoom Eat – a styled snacks and beverages service; a new initiative to have 1:1 lady pilots on board – operating from Premium T3 in New Delhi and T2 in Mumbai,” informed Dhar.
“We envisage 18-20 per cent year-on-year growth on such underserved and un-served airports and we have seen such massive air traffic growth for stations like Vijaywada, Tirupati, Ranchi and Chandigarh. It's all about connectivity and regular reliable services," Dhar added.
With the launch of its services, Zoom Air is expected to intensify competition in the regional aviation market, which currently accounts for a meagre 1.2 per cent of the total domestic air passenger traffic.
