Boarded flight for Amritsar from Mumbai at 6 in the morning and reached Amritsar around 8.30 AM (Amritsar airport to golden temple is 13kms)
had pre booked an Airbnb with a car provided by the host (paid extra for the car). Checked-in, freshened up and headed directly to the Golden Temple (10 mins walk from the room...planned that way) took around 2 hours for darshan and 1 hour for langar (got lucky.. didn't had to wait here) and visit to Jallianwala baug (just outside golden temple)
And then we headed for Wagah-Attari border (30 kms from Golden Temple) to witness border closing and flag lowering ceremony (free entry, reach early for best seats, leave Amritsar by 2.30 PM)
got back to Amritsar by almost 8 PM (traffic) and headed again to golden temple for the night view and for some shopping (bought a couple of steel kadas outside the temple and karah prasad packets called Pinni from inside the temple)
And then we were hungry for some famous Amritsar cuisine...so we got ourselves to Makhan fish and chicken corner (4 kms away from the temple and it is also a bar and restaurant, but have a seperate dinning only section too) for the famous Amritsari macchi (fried fish with seasoning) and for some chicken tandoori. Since it was passed 10 pm, all other food outlets were closing (and by then we were very tired too.) so we missed Kesar Da dhaba and other famous joints and headed to a local (not so famous) dhaba outside golden temple and had a thali and Amritsar special lassi ( lassi is special everywhere in Amritsar I guess) and it was delicious and fulfilling too...loved it
Checked out morning and took 9 AM flight back to Mumbai with happy memories :)
