By car can buses ..but through lakkar mandi road may be closed so via Chamba is only option

In joshimath you can stay in The Tattva Resort hotel which is really nice and in Auli you can stay in Auli Ski resort

If you want to avoid snow, postpone your trip to mid january, because its snow time from december end to january mid.

This is a very subjective thing.
Most people like to travel towards hills to enjoy cool breeze, many prefer beaches to feel the sun.
You have to decide your preference.

Route is pretty good till kalpa, Reckong peo... Swift dzire will have no problem. just check on the latest weather conditions on snowfall. driving in heavy snow would be risky around Kalpa. take care and safe journey
