Darjeeling is more like 'chota' Shimla - it's crowded. There are some good eateries to try and some shopping that you can do as tourist. This is if you are planning to travel. If you plan to trek, you have multiple, stunning treks to explore.

Keep a minimum of 2 days - one day for Panchmarhi sight seeing, and another day for Dhoopgarh(make sure you see the sunset there)

There are lot of hotels ranging from INR 1000 - 2000 Per night near and around Darbar sahib. You can book them before reaching as they are at the walking distance from Darbar sahib and market.
