Coorg is one of the most scenic hill station in India. The best time to visit Coorg hill station is anytime throughout the year as it will experience a pleasant weather. But it is recommended to avoid going to Coorg from June to September due to heavy rainfall over there.
The summer season in Coorg begins in the month of March and lasts through May. During this time, the temperature turns warm, making it ideal for daytime travels. It is also said to be the best season to visit Coorg, especially when one wants to take part in the outdoor activities that are provided. Also, one of the popular seasons to visit Coorg, winter is ideal for cold weather activities. The time between the months of December and February can also be considered as the best time.
So in this trip we are 4 of us travelling to Coorg to explore the beautiful places in the month of December! Among the 4 of us, 2 were from Coorg so we decided to stay at their place.
We left from Mangalore at 6 in the morning and reached Madikeri at around 10:30. We reached one of our friends place, got freshed up, had breakfast and got ready to start exploring! We hired a taxi for our travelling.
We first went to Harangi backwaters. The Harangi Reservoir is located near Hudgur village, Somwarpet taluk in Kodagu district in the Indian state of Karnataka. The reservoir is formed by a masonry dam built across the river Harangi, a tributary of the Kaveri. This is a must visit place for a couple of hours. Though not much of activity oriented place but worth spending couple of hours.
Next we moved on to The Amanvana Spa Resort in the noon. Located close to the Kaveri River, Amanvana is a great place to unwind amidst the lush foliage. The chirping of the birds and the river flowing by the side makes it idyllic. As we had decided to stay in our friends place we had been there only for lunch. The lunch was amazing than expected.
The last one for the day was Mallalli waterfalls. It is situated about 26 kilometers from Somwarpet and lie at the base of Kumara Parvatha or Pushpagiri hills. We travelled for nearly 47 kilometers from the resort to reach the waterfalls. The fact that the falls are in the foot of the Pushpagiri hills makes the place a much adventurous trekking point. We had to walk for nearly half an hour getting down the steps. It was really very tiring. But trust me the view was mesmerising and one of the beautiful things that I've seen.
We then reached home and relaxed for a while. As it was winter fire camp was arranged. Yummy Coorg food was served for dinner which made our tummy happy. That was the end of the first day.
We decided to start the day early. It was very very cold in the morning. We left the house at 4.30 in the morning because we had to reach Mandalpatti by 6. Mandalpatti is situated at around 18 km from Madikeri, Coorg. It is one of the best tourist spots in Coorg and a must visit destination.
Next we moved on to another waterfalls called Abbi waterfalls. Abbi Falls, also known as Abbey Falls, is located around 10 kilometres away from the town of Madikeri and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in and around Coorg. The waterfall is located between private coffee plantations and spice estates with trees entwined with pepper vines.
After that we visited a temple which is in Madikeri town, then had lunch and moved to Virajpet to another friend's place. We relaxed for a while and went for a walk in the evening to the paddy field which is nearby to the house.
The next morning we visited coffee estate. As it was the season of coffee plucking we enjoyed plucking some coffee from the plants. For a more relaxed walk we went to a view point and spent some good time. The next early morning we left from Coorg with happy and cherishing memories. On the whole it was 2 wonderful days roaming about in Coorg and spending some quality time with their families.
