Kochi may not demand much attention or extensive selling points to justify its allure, but let me share the three aspects that, in my view, make it particularly inviting. It's the captivating fusion of rich heritage, vibrant modern culture, and a delightful array of flavors that truly sets Kochi aglow.
1. Culture & History
Like many destinations in India, Kochi offers a journey through time, from the historic Dutch Palace and Fort Kochi to the iconic Chinese Fishing Nets and beyond.
Even newer additions like evolving temples, churches, and the city's charming lanes showcase its rich cultural tapestry. Kochi's vibrant modern culture shines through its thriving art scene, with places like the Kathakali Centre and contemporary hubs like Pepper House adding to its dynamic allure.
2. Food
While I didn't want to come across as someone solely fixated on food, in my opinion, exploring a destination's culinary scene is paramount. Kochi, in particular, offers an irresistible array of dishes, from the iconic Karimeen and aromatic biryanis to delectable fish curries and delightful vegetarian options.
While Paragon is a popular choice, my personal favorite spot has to be Grand Hotel – especially for seafood lovers. Missing out on this culinary gem would be a regrettable oversight during your visit!
3. Art Cafes
In Kochi, coffee transcends being just a drink; it embodies a cultural experience. It's not just about the historical significance or the quality of filter coffee; it's about how some of the finest cafes also serve as hubs for artists, exhibitions, and a supportive environment for the creative community. While I've only had the pleasure of visiting a few, like Kashi Art Cafe, my list of must-visit spots is extensive.
Needless to say, I'm eagerly looking forward to returning. If you have any recommendations, I'd love to hear them!
In short, Kochi is a multifaceted gem, where the convergence of culture, coffee, and cuisine creates an unforgettable experience.
Not to mention how it's on the way to a lot of other places in Kerala. But that's another story - right?
