Anshi National Park

Located at a little more than 50 kilometers from the Uttara Kannada District, this was first opened as a Wildlife Sanctuary in May, 1956. Later, a part of this was declared as a National Park and then again later, in January 2007, the status of this was promoted as a Project Tiger Sanctuary. The place is of course rich in both flora and fauna and the main species of flora found here are the lantana, bauhinia, silver oak, bamboo, teak and eucalyptus. The major species of fauna here are the bonnet, Malabar Giant Squirrels, Malabar civets, deer, panglin, sloth bear and bisons. The common leopards, tigers and elephants are also found here. There are a number of birds which come here as migratory birds round the year.
