Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple

Mannarasala is a popular Hindu temple which is famous for its serpents. Devotees come here to worship the presiding deities and serpents here. The temple is also associated with Lord Parashurama who is considered to be the creator of the land of Kerala. It is located at a distance of 30 km from Alleppey and 3 km from Haripad KSRTC bus stand. The nearest airport to Mannarasala is Cochin International Airport. There are some popular offerings that are dedicated by believers at Mannarasala temple like milk, melted butter, salt, turmeric or even a pot full of Gold. The rituals of Valia Amma are among the biggest attractions of Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple. Valia Amma is a Brahmin Lady who performs a special worship everyday. Besides that, there are festivals like Mahashivratri and Nilavara's annual worship which attract a lot of believers and are celebrated with a grand spectacle at Mannarasala.
Subhrajyoti Parida
Sree Nagaraja Temple at Mannarasala attracts devotees of serpents (called as Nagaraja in devotion) in hundreds from every corner of the state and also from several parts of the country. We learned from the temple priests that usually women seeking fertility come to worship here, and upon the birth of their child they again come to hold thanksgiving ceremonies, often bringing new snake images as offerings. The Mannarasala Temple has over 30,000 images of snakes along the paths and among the trees, and is the largest such temple in Kerala. Finally, we headed back to Alleppey which was then around 35 kms up north from Mannarasala
