Woke up early to catch the first boat ride through the Periyar Wildlife Reserve. Didn't particularly get to see too many animals but the 90 minute boat ride was definitely a beautiful experience. We had breakfast after the ride, rested for a while and were back in the bus towards Varkala. A 6 hour bus journey to Kollam and a 15 minute train to Varkala from there. We reached just in time for dinner. Stayed in a beach facing cottage at Bamboo Village and had a lovely candlelight dinner at a shack to kick start Varkala.
Vanya Tree House
Built on a single tree on the face of a hill, the Vanya Tree House is nestled quietly in the dense forests of the Western Ghats and offers you a perfect escape from chaos. The nature resort spread over 10 acres of giant trees and plantations and is located just next to Periyar Wildlife Park. The accommodation and facilties are comfortably adequate, and the tree house is quaint...almost mystic when it rains and it can transport you to a better life, immediately.
Mayura Ayurvedic Centre
Post our return, Madhumita relaxed herself at Mayura ayurvedic massage centre and I retired to stop-gap sleep at Thekkady Homestay. The owners shared the dinner cooked for them when we told them that we were too tired to go out for dinner. It was indeed a very sweet gesture. We got to eat home cooked food for the first time in this trip. They were very friendly and aunty felt bad that she could offer us only rice, sambar and puttu with some fish fry. Little did she know that it was heavenly for us and the food tasted awesome.
