Weekend Getaways from Pisa
On Day 8, we made our way towards the city of Pisa. Here, we straightaway went to the main attraction of the city, the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the seven wonders of the world, making the city of Pisa, among the most visited, the world over. The monument, is actually a bell tower and took almost 200 years to be built. It started leaning once the construction reached the fifth floor, (out of eight in total). Due to the leaning, the top of the tower is 17 feet away from the vertical, making it a marvel to look at. Several attempts have been made to take it down, and rebuild, or restore at another location. Several people have tried to understand the reason behind the leaning. But no concrete scientific reason has been found so far.

Leaning Tower of Pisa
I’m going to share with you a secret that I’ve kept quiet until now.…..go at night…. Wait…when?!? That’s right, at night. Go after the sun has set. Find a nice bar and have an aperitivo, or even an early dinner, then make your way to the Piazza dei Miracoli. You won’t believe your eyes. The vendors will be closed and their shops will have the shutters drawn. The throngs of tourists will be gone. The security guards telling you to stay off the grass will be at home enjoying dinner and telling their families about the funny things they saw foreigners doing that day. But most of all, you will notice the silence. The Piazza dei Miracoli is a place that I take every single person who comes to visit us to see. Even if during the day, the Piazza dei Miracoli is one of the most majestic squares I have ever seen, and I never get tired of seeing it. In another tip I will tell you about each building, a little history, and some little known tales and folklore surrounding various aspects of the square. But for right this second, I want you to imagine having this square to yourself. Or perhaps a few other likeminded people who speak in soft whispers and are more intent on experiencing the piazza from the lack of assault on the senses than with it.
Namaste India Ristorante
We had come to know about this place while researching about places to eat in Pisa. Then read some great reviews in tripadvisor. We visited this place last week and must say the reviews were all correct. The food was great. The owner Mr.Velupandian Devar was simply superb to talk with. He narrated stories about some of his exciting experiences in food business. Namaste India ristorante is located close to Pisa Centrale staion. Actually we walked there from station and then walked up to the tower. Overall a authentic place to eat Indian place. You may give this place a try if you are in Pisa.
This square is very popular. It is in the exact centre of the city, and in fact the bridge opposite the square is called Ponte di Mezzo, the “middle bridge”. The statue in the square is of Garibaldi. The square is always very crowded and it is one of the gathering points in Pisa. From April to July the square is packed with students going to the bars that open onto the square and sitting on the Lungarno walls. Moreover, in this square you can find the best ice-cream shop, La Bottega del Gelato: don’t miss it!
