The life of the city of Madurai in Tamil Nadu is said to revolve around the twin temples of Madurai. These are the temples of Sundereshwarar and Meenakshi which are like a city in itself. This is because the temples' complex consists of almost around 12 gopurams of various designs and heights. The lake inside is known as the Golden Pond as this was the sam place in which a golden lotus once grew for Indira Puja. The Ayiram Kaal Mandapam is the 1000 pillar temple and is the main attraction in the complex. The unique fact about this temple is that the pillars seem to be built in an exact straight line from any angle you view it from. This temple was built around 2000 years ago and still maintains the grandeur. Many rulers and kings have contributed for the building of this temple and the maximum came from King Thirumalai Naakkar.
