Monkey Temple (Durga Temple)

This is an 18th Century temple built on the southern part of Varanasi. This temple is built in the Naagra Style and the credit goes to some Bengali queen of that era. The beautiful design of multiple spires make the temple look grand and the red and ochre colour combination is the symbol of the Mother Goddess. The main deity here is Goddess Durga who represents Shakti or power. Adjacent to this temple is a rectangular tank which is also known as the Durga Kund. This was at one time linked with the river but the connection is not there now. Most people come here to worship during the Navaratri.
