This highway is a part of the Golden Quadrilateral project and runs along the boundaries of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The Northern Terminal is in Mayurbhanj, Odisha and the Southern is in Chennai, Andhra Pradesh. In Andhra Pradesh, it runs through Nellor, kavali, Ongole, Chilakaluripet, Vijayawada, Guntur and Eluru.
