The reason behind the increase in Indian travellers to Bhutan is mainly because of the removal of the compulsory travel insurance requirement for tourists. The requirement has been finally removed by Bhutan's Department of Tourism.

During Covid-19, Bhutan's Department of Tourism had introduced this mandatory insurance to cover unforeseen emergencies like medical expenses related to the pandemic. But now that we are way ahead of those dark times, this requirement is now being lifted.

The reason to remove the Travel Insurance requirement

The one and only reason to remove such requirements is to make it convenient for travellers so that more tourists visit Bhutan. Although it's better if you get a travel insurance as precautionary measure in order to avoid any future hassels.
