Chakrata is a pleasant getaway tucked amidst coniferous, oak and rhododendron trees and away, most importantly, from pollution. Around 2 hours from Dehradun, the place is perfect to unwind during the weekend and also enjoy a decent amount of adventure.
Trekking to the 312 ft tall Tiger Falls is a must do, along with cave exploring at the Budher caves. For a more challenging activity, trekking 16 km uphill leads one to Thana Dana Peak, which serves as a spectacular and isolated viewpoint for the Himalayas. Places such as Deoband and Ram Tal Horticultural Garden are for observing the bountiful flora and fauna of this area, catering specifically to bird watchers.
In winter, one can even enjoy skiing through Chakrata's picturesque meadows. To enjoy spectacular sights of famous mountain peaks such as Swarg, Bandarpoonch and Rohini, Chilmiri Neck whilst taking a refreshing walk amidst towering deodars, visit the highest peak of Chakrata, Chilmiri Neck. One can also visit temples such as Lakhamandal and Hanol, which have picturesque hills in the backdrop. Though the place has no specific restaurants, one can always get vegetarian and non-vegetarian food at hotels and resorts.
