India's mini Switzerland, Chopta is surprisingly unexplored. Perhaps it's the distance from urban towns or the lack of information that Chopta remains an offbeat destination.
Located in Rudraprayag district in Uttarakhand, Chopta offers overwhelming views of snow-capped mountains, lush forests and small streams. The beginning point of many treks, Chopta is not a regular hill station. With its hidden trails, quiet hideouts and warm homestays, the small hilly town offers travellers an unforgettable experience.
Magpie Eco Resort and Chauhan Guest house are some of the better places to stay here, though a lot of guesthouses and homestays are in the process of setting up. Do plan a long trip here since the route to Chopta is slightly tricky and you may have to change a few buses on the way. If you'd prefer travelling by train, do book your tickets way in advance and remember that there's no direct train to Chopta.
Best time to visit Chopta is from March to June and October
