Kalimpong is about 2.5 hours away from Darjeeling and Siliguri. Located in the mid ranges of the Himalayas, known for its lush green slopes and deep rolling valleys, the hill station of Kalimpong is a traveller’s delight! The Teesta River separates the town from Sikkim and the site makes for a splendid sight. Known as ‘the land of kings’ in its native dialect, Kalimpong is situated on a ridge connecting the two hills of Deolo and Durpin. The multilingual culture has a beautiful vibe with Buddhist monasteries, temples and quaint churches in colonial architecture. Though there is not much to see in Kalimpong besides the stunning mountainside, you can view the beautiful Neora Valley National Park. The thick forests here are home to endangered species such as the Red Panda, Barking Deer and Himalayan Tahr. For bird lovers, if you are lucky, you can spot the Himalayan woodpecker, flycatchers, pheasants and warblers. And shopping enthusiasts, there is tons for you as well. The busy Teesta bazaar makes for a wonderful evening activity. Do take back awe-inspiring, traditional handicraft items, woollen and other souvenirs from the rows and rows of workshops here. If this is your first time here, do a thorough research on places to stay. There is a variety of choice including guesthouses, hotels and homestays. Some of the more popular ones are Gaff Homestays and Holumba Haven.
