About Patiala

The popular Patiala peg, a measure of liquor, comes from the colourful city of Patiala. As does the parandi – a hair accessory, the patiala salwar – female trousers and the jutti – a traditional type of footwear. Patiala in the state of Punjab is a beautiful city known for its rich and colourful history. There is a lot to see and experience here. The Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib, made of marble glistens in the sun and is a humbling sight to behold. Its counterpart, the Gurdwara Moti Bagh Saheb, which is also located in the city, puts you in an introspective mood. Located at about 6km from the city, the Bahadurgarh Fort is an imposing fortification that has stood the test of time. With its robust walls, intricate pathways and fine handiwork, this fort is a fine example of Sikh architecture. The Qila Mubarak Complex is a fort cum palace that houses a huge array of architectures within itself, including Ran Baas (guest house), Darbar Hall, Qila Androon, with an underground sewerage system within the qila. An unmissable attraction is the Sheesh Mahal. It is an enchanting labyrinth of mirrors, with the glittering glass casting myriad reflections as far as one can see. The palace seems to have been carved out of mirrors and mirrors alone. Patiala is also a nature lover's paradise, with its Baradari Gardens housing a large number of rare trees, shrubs and flowers. A walk in these gardens is rejuvenating and refreshing! Patiala has a huge network of buses that run quite regularly, and can be easily reached from Chandigarh. Patiala has its own railway station and frequent trains are available from all major places. In conclusion, this city makes up for an ideal historic experience.
